Quantum coherence in Λ-three-level system driven by bichromatic coupling field

Yang Li-Jun, Zhao Min, Lianshui Zhang +3 more

We present a theoretical study of quantum coherent effects in a Λ-three-level system with a strong bichromatic coupling field and a weak probe field. When one component of the strong bichromatic coupling field is resonant with a corresponding transition and the other is detuning with an integer fraction of the Rabi frequency of the resonant field, the absorption spectrum exhibits a series of symmetrical doublets. While two frequencies of the strong bichromatic coupling field are symmetrically detuned from the transition, the position and the relative intensity of the absorption peak are both affected by the coupling field intensity and detuning. An explanation of the spectrum is given in term of the dressed-state formalism.

Optical fluorescence at the combinational frequency in coherently driven three-level systems

Chris O’Brien, Shaoyan Gao, Olga A. Kocharovskaya

We derive and compare the optical fluorescence spectra for all three transitions for three-level systems coherently coupled with two fields in a cascade or lambda configuration. It is shown that the total intensity of fluorescence at the combinational frequency (the sum or difference of the driving field frequencies in the ladder and lambda systems, respectively) may essentially exceed the fluorescence intensity at the driven transitions under the condition of two-photon resonance. The influence of additional homogeneous and inhomogeneous line broadening on the distribution of intensities between different fluorescence channels is studied. In particular, Doppler broadening is found to suppress fluorescence from the driven transitions but in some cases not from the combinational transition.

Effects of decay-induced coherence and microwave-induced coherence on the index of refraction in a three-level Λ-type atomic system

Weihua Xu, Jin‐Hui Wu, Jin-Yue Gao

We study the dispersion-absorption properties in a three-level Λ-type atomic system with two closely lying lower levels. We consider two schemes: in the first, the two lower levels are coupled by decay-induced coherence, and in the second, quantum coherence is created by coupling the two lower levels to each other by a microwave field. We found that due to the decay-induced coherence or microwave-induced coherence, the dispersion-absorption properties can be controlled by the relative phase of applied fields, large index of refraction without absorption always can be obtained just by choosing proper values of the relative phase.
