Impact of Controlling Fields on the Absorption-dispersion Properties in an M-type Atomic System

The impact on the absorption-dispersion properties in an Mtype five-level atomic system interacting with external fields system are discussed by using numerical analysis. It is shown that changing the control fields can influence the absorption-dispersion properties regularly. The electromagnetically induce transparency windows can be obtained if the parameters are taken appropriately. The number of transparency windows is proportion to the number of control fields and the width of the transparency windows is related to Rabi frequencies. It is found that the electromagnetically induce transparency windows in the system narrow gradually as decreasing control fields Rabi frequencies while the dispersion of medium would be enhanced and slow-light would be realized.

Phase-Controlled Absorption and Dispersion Properties of a Multi-Level Quantum Emitter Interacting with Bismuth-Chalcogenide Microparticles

Theodoros Papachronis, Nikolaos Kyvelos, Emmanuel Paspalakis +1 more

We theoretically study the impact of bismuth-chalcogenide microparticles on the linear absorption and dispersion properties of a four-level double-V-type quantum system. The quantum system interacts with two circularly polarized laser fields of the same frequency but with different phases and electric field amplitudes. Our study indicates that the inclusion of bismuth-chalcogenide microparticles leads to notable alterations in the absorption and dispersion spectra corresponding to one of the probe laser fields (while both fields are present). These alterations are much more dramatic compared to those induced by common plasmonic materials. By manipulating the field amplitudes as well as the phase difference between the two incident waves, the optical properties of the system can be efficiently controlled. Our study also highlights several effects, including complete optical transparency, zero absorption with nonzero dispersion, and gain without inversion.

The impact of decay-induced interference on transient behaviours of the dispersion and the absorption

Mostafa Sahrai, Mohammad Mahmoudi

The dynamical behaviour of the dispersion and the absorption in a nearly equispaced ladder-type three-level atomic system is investigated. It is shown that in the presence of decay-induced interference the probe dispersion and absorption are phase dependent. The required switching times for switching the group velocity of a probe field from subluminal to superluminal pulse propagation is then discussed. We find that applying an incoherent pumping field provides an additional control parameter for switching the probe absorption to probe gain.
