Abstract

Recent works of the authors on quantum information science using photons are reviewed. After the general introduction of photonic quantum information science, unique nano photonic devices such as tapered optical fibers, microsphere resonators, and nano diamond crystals are explained and their relationship with surface science is discussed. In the latter half, the realization of optical quantum circuits, and the application of such quantum circuits for quantum metrology are explained.

Photonic quantum information: science and technology

Shigeki Takeuchi

Recent technological progress in the generation, manipulation and detection of individual single photons has opened a new scientific field of photonic quantum information. This progress includes the realization of single photon switches, photonic quantum circuits with specific functions, and the application of novel photonic states to novel optical metrology beyond the limits of standard optics. In this review article, the recent developments and current status of photonic quantum information technology are overviewed based on the author's past and recent works.

Hybrid device for quantum nanophotonics

Stefano Pierini, d'Amato, Maria, Maxime Joos +5 more

Photons have been identified early on as a very good candidate for quantum technologies applications, as carriers of quantum information, either by polarization encoding, time encoding or spatial encoding. Quantum cryptography, quantum communications, quantum networks and quantum computing are some of the applications targeted by the so called quantum photonics. Nevertheless, it was also clear at an early stage that bulk optics for handling quantum states of light would not be the best option for these technologies. More recently, single photons, entangled photons and quantum light in general have been coupled to integrated approaches coming from classical optics in order to meet the requirements of scalability, reliability and efficiency for quantum technologies. In this article, we describe our recent advances using elongated optical nano-fibers. We also present our latest results on nanocrystals made of perovskites and discuss some of their quantum properties. Finally, we will discuss the general steps necessary in order to couple these nanoemitters efficiently with our photonic platform, based on tapered optical nanofibers.
