Abstract

We present a theoretical study of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a superconducting quantum circuit with a tunable V-shaped energy spectrum derived from two superconducting Josephson charge qubits coupled with each other through a superconducting quantum interference device. Using the density matrix formalism and the steady-state approximation, we obtain the analytical expressions of the first-order matrix element associated with the absorption and dispersion of the probe field for two different V-type schemes. Our results show that, for this superconducting quantum system, it is possible to realize a remarkable phenomenon that dynamic conversion between EIT and EIT with amplification without population inversion. Such a unique optical feature has potential applications in quantum optical devices and quantum information processing.

Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Using a Artificial Molecule in Circuit Quantum Electrodynamics

Hai‐Chao Li, Guo-Qin Ge

Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) having wide applications in quantum optics and nonlinear optics is explored ordinarily in various atomic systems. In this paper we present a theoretical study of EIT using supercon- ducting circuit with a V-type artificial molecule constructed by two Josephson charge qubits coupled each other through a large capacitor. In our theoretical model we make a steady state approximation and obtain the analytical expressions of the complex susceptibility for the artificial system via the density matrix formalism. The complex susceptibility has additional dependence on the qubit parameters and hence can be tuned to a certain extent.

Controllable generations of electromagnetically induced transparency with a superconducting qutrit driven by tunable drivings

Run‐Ying Yan, Zhi‐Bo Feng, Zheng‐Yin Zhao +2 more

Abstract We develop an efficient scheme for controllably generating electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) with a superconducting qutrit driven by tunable drivings. At an optimal bias point, the first three level states of a charge-phase quantum circuit constitute our qutrit. Allowed by the level transition rule, V- and -type interactions between the qutrit and driving fields can be obtained individually. By the technique of density matrix, we analytically derive and numerically address two cases of EIT for an identical probe field only by tuning the frequency of control driving. Thanks to the tunable interactions within the qutrit having sufficient level anharmonicity, our strategy offers a promising approach to generate EIT in a controllable manner, which could be highly preferable to experimentally investigate EIT with superconducting artificial atoms.

Dressed-state realization of the transition from electromagnetically induced transparency to Autler-Townes splitting in superconducting circuits

Hai‐Chao Li, Guo-Qin Ge, Haiyang Zhang

We investigate electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and Autler-Townes splitting (ATS) in a driven three-level superconducting artificial system which is a dressed-state system resulting from the coupling of a superconducting charge qubit (an artificial atom) and a transmission line resonator. In the frame of the dressed-state approach and steady-state approximation, we study the linear absorption of the dressed artificial system to a weak probe signal in depth. In light of the spectrum-decomposition method and some other restrictions, we obtain the explicit conditions for the dressed-state realization of EIT and ATS and present a corresponding "phase diagram". In contrast to usual bare systems, these conditions given in the dressed system have an extra dependency on the qubit-resonator parameters. And by varying the qubit's Josephson coupling energy we demonstrate a transition from EIT to ATS.

Transient absorption and lasing without inversion in an artificial molecule via Josephson coupling energy

Hamid Reza Hamedi

This letter investigates the dynamical behavior of the absorption in a superconducting quantum circuit with a tunable V-type artificial molecule constructed by two superconducting Josephson charge qubits coupled with each other through a superconducting quantum interference device. It is found that the ratio of the Josephson coupling energy to the capacitive coupling strength provides an extra controlling parameter for manipulating transient absorption behaviors. It is also realized that in the presence of an incoherent pumping field, lasing without inversion can be obtained just through the joint effect of the Josephson coupling energy and the capacitive coupling strength. Results may provide some new possibilities for solid-state quantum information science.

Tunable electromagnetically induced transparency with a coupled superconducting system

Xin Wang, Hongrong Li, Wen-xiao Liu +1 more

Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) has usually been demonstrated by using three-level atomic systems. In this paper, we theoretically proposed an efficient method to realize EIT in microwave regime through a coupled system consisting of a flux qubit and a superconducting LC resonator with relatively high quality factor. In the present composed system, the working levels are the dressed states of a two-level flux qubit and the resonators with a probe pump field. There exits a second order coherent transfer between the dressed states. By comparing the results with those in the conventional atomic system we have revealed the physical origin of the EIT phenomenon in this composed system. Since the whole system is artificial and tunable, our scheme may have potential applications in various domains.

Electromagnetically induced transparency and electromagnetically induced absorption in Y-type system

Kalan Mal, Khairul Islam, Suman Mondal +2 more

The propagation of a probe field through a four-level Y-type atomic system is described in the presence of two additional coherent radiation fields, namely, the control field and the coupling field. An expression for the probe response is derived analytically from the optical Bloch equations under steady state condition to study the absorptive properties of the system under probe field propagation through an ensemble of stationary atoms as well as in a Doppler broadened atomic vapor medium. The most striking result is the conversion of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) into electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) as we start switching from weak probe regime to strong probe regime. The dependence of this conversion on residual Doppler averaging due to wavelength mismatch is also shown by choosing the coupling transition as a Rydberg transition.
