Relative ordering of square-norm distance correlations in open quantum systems

Abstract

We investigate the square-norm distance correlation dynamics of the Bell-diagonal states under different local decoherence channels, including phase flip, bit flip, and bit-phase flip channels by employing the geometric discord (GD) and its modified geometric discord (MGD), as the measures of the square-norm distance correlations. Moreover, an explicit comparison between them is made in detail. The results show that there is no distinct dominant relative ordering between them. Furthermore, we obtain that the GD just gradually deceases to zero, while MGD initially has a large freezing interval, and then suddenly changes in evolution. The longer the freezing interval, the less the MGD is. Interestingly, it is shown that the dynamic behaviors of the two geometric discords under the three noisy environments for the Werner-type initial states are the same.

One-norm geometric quantum discord under decoherence

J. D. Montealegre, F. M. de Paula, A. Saguia +1 more

Geometric quantum discord is a well-defined measure of quantum correlation if Schatten one-norm (trace norm) is adopted as a distance measure. Here, we analytically investigate the dynamical behavior of the one-norm geometric quantum discord under the effect of decoherence. By starting from arbitrary Bell-diagonal mixed states under Markovian local noise, we provide the decays of the quantum correlation as a function of the decoherence parameters. In particular, we show that the one-norm geometric discord exhibits the possibility of double sudden changes and freezing behavior during its evolution. For nontrivial Bell-diagonal states under simple Markovian channels, these are new features that are in contrast with the Schatten two-norm (Hilbert-Schmidt) geometric discord. The necessary and sufficient conditions for double sudden changes as well as their exact locations in terms of decoherence probabilities are provided. Moreover, we illustrate our results by investigating decoherence in quantum spin chains in the thermodynamic limit.

Measurement-induced geometric measures of correlations based on the Hellinger distance and their local decoherence

Zbigniew Walczak

We apply the modified Brodutch and Modi method of constructing geometric measures of correlations to obtain analytical expressions for measurement-induced geometric classical and quantum correlations based on the Hellinger distance for two-qubit Bell diagonal states. Moreover, we study dynamics of the classical and quantum correlations for these states under decoherence induced by the action of bit flip, bit-phase flip, phase flip, depolarizing and generalized amplitude damping local quantum channels and identify all possible types of the decoherence dynamics. In particular, we show that these correlations exhibit freezing, sudden change and sudden transition between classical and quantum decoherence phenomena.

Dynamics of Quantum Discord in Asymmetric and Local Non-Markovian Environments

Xiang Hao, Tao Pan, Sha Jin-Qiao +1 more

The non-Markovian decoherence of quantum and classical correlations is analytically obtained when two qubits are asymmetrically subjected to the bit flip channel and phase flip channel. For one class of initial mixed states, quantum correlations quantified by quantum discord decay synchronously with classical correlations. The discovery that the decaying rates of quantum and classical correlations suddenly change at the characteristic time is physically interpreted by the distance from quantum state to the closest classical states. In a large time interval, quantum correlations are greater than classical correlations. The quantum and classical correlations can be preserved over a longer period of time via the kernel characterizing the environment memory effects.

Dynamics of geometric and entropic quantifiers of correlations in open quantum systems

Bruno Bellomo, Rosario Lo Franco, Giuseppe Compagno

We extend the Hilbert-Schmidt (square norm) distance, previously used to define the geometric quantum discord, to define also geometric quantifiers of total and classical correlations. We then compare the dynamics of geometric and entropic quantifiers of the different kinds of correlations in a non-Markovian open two-qubit system under local dephasing. We find that qualitative differences occur only for quantum discords. This is taken to imply that geometric and entropic discords are not, in general, equivalent in describing the dynamics of quantum correlations. We then show that geometric and entropic quantifiers of total correlations also present qualitative disagreements in the state space. This aspect indicates that the differences found for quantum discord are not attributable to a different separation, introduced by each measure, between the quantum and classical parts of correlations. Finally, we find that the Hilbert-Schmidt distance formally coincides with a symmetrized form of linear relative entropy.

Hierarchy and dynamics of trace distance correlations

Benjamin Aaronson, Rosario Lo Franco, Giuseppe Compagno +1 more

We define and analyze measures of correlations for bipartite states based on trace distance. For Bell diagonal states of two qubits, in addition to the known expression for quantum correlations using this metric, we provide analytic expressions for the classical and total correlations. The ensuing hierarchy of correlations based on trace distance is compared to those based on relative entropy and Hilbert–Schmidt norm. Although some common features can be found, the trace distance measure is shown to differentiate from the others in that the closest uncorrelated state to a given bipartite quantum state is not given by the product of the marginals, and further, the total correlations are strictly smaller than the sum of the quantum and classical correlations. We compare the various correlation measures in two dynamical non-Markovian models, locally applied phase-flip channels and random external fields. It is shown that the freezing behavior, observed across all known valid measures of quantum correlations for Bell diagonal states under local phase-flip channels, occurs for a larger set of starting states for the trace distance than for the other metrics.

Freezing of geometric discords for two qutrits in environments

Wei Xiao, Mei-Yun Zhen, Xi-Wen Hou

Several measures of geometric discords have been recently proposed and mostly characterized in qubits. In this work, the dynamics of four measures of geometric discords is studied for two kinds of initial states in the two-qutrit model under environments. It is shown that four indicators can display freezing in Markovian regime and multiple freezing with multiple sudden changes in non-Markovian regime for suitable initial states and model parameters. Moreover, those measures evolve in a similar manner, but they differ from the decaying or increasing rate, the oscillatory amplitude and the time interval of freezing. However, they do not exhibit any freezing for the general Bell states. The dynamical hierarchy is discussed for those indicators. Those are helpful to understand the rich phenomena of discordant dynamics in open qutrits.
