Coherent Operation of a Tunable Quantum Phase Gate in Cavity QED

Arno Rauschenbeutel, Gilles Nogues, S. Osnaghi +4 more

We have realized a quantum phase gate operating on quantum bits carried by a single Rydberg atom and a zero- or one-photon field in a high- $Q$ cavity. The gate operation is based on the dephasing of the atom-field state produced by a full cycle of quantum Rabi oscillation. The dephasing angle, conditioned to the initial atom-field state, can be adjusted over a wide range by tuning the atom-cavity frequency difference. We demonstrate that the gate preserves qubit coherence and generates entanglement. This gate is an essential tool for the nondestructive measurement of single photons and for the manipulation of many-qubit entanglement in cavity QED.

Collinear ultra-broadband parametric fluorescence generated from 10%-chirped quasi phase matched device

Akira Tanaka, Ryo Okamoto, Hwan Hong Lim +4 more

The state-of-art technology of a quasi-phase matched (QPM) device has enabled the efficient generation of frequency-entangled photon pairs through parametric fluorescence [1, 2]. Harris [3] has proposed the generation of photon pairs which are correlated on a mono-cycle time scale of optical period. In that paper, the poling period of QPM device is linearly chirped (increased) from the entrance to the exit. Thus, each poling period is phase matched at different wavelengths of photon pairs, spanning ultra-broad spectrum. Recent experiment by Mohan et al as its application to quantum optical coherence tomography [4], has realized the parametric fluorescence from chirped-QPM device which is phase matched from 820nm to 1500nm using stoichiometric lithium tantalate (SLT) crystal as a nonlinear medium with 13% chirping (poling period: from 7.500µm to 8.500µm).

Control of quantum coherence of photons exploiting quantum entanglement

Dianzhen Cui, Xi‐Lin Wang, X. X. Yi +1 more

Accurately controlling the quantum coherence of photons is pivotal for their applications in quantum sensing and quantum imaging. Here, we propose the utilization of quantum entanglement and local phase manipulation techniques to control the higher-order quantum coherence of photons. By engineering the spatially varying phases in the transverse plane, we can precisely manipulate the spatial structure of the second-order coherence function of entangled photon pairs without changing the photon intensity distribution of each photon. Our approach can readily be extended to higher-order quantum coherence control. These results could potentially stimulate experimental research and applications of optical quantum coherence.
