Abstract — Reversible logic is one of the most vital issue at present time and it has different areas for its application, those are low power CMOS, quantum computing, nanotechnology, cryptography, optical computing, DNA computing, digital signal processing (DSP), quantum dot cellular automata, communication, computer graphics. It is not possible to realize quantum computing without implementation of reversible logic. The main purposes of designing reversible logic are to decrease quantum cost, depth of the circuits and the number of garbage outputs. This paper provides the basic reversible logic gates, which in designing of more complex system having reversible circuits as a primitive component and which can execute more complicated operations using quantum computers. The reversible circuits form the basic building block of quantum computers as all quantum operations are reversible. This paper presents the data relating to the primitive reversible gates which are available in literature and helps researches in designing higher complex computing circuits using reversible gates.
Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed but it can be conserved. The processors of present day computers are designed using conventional logic circuits which are irreversible in nature. They suffer from loss of information during computation, leading to energy dissipation in the form of heat affecting the performance and life of the circuits. These limitations of conventional logic circuits can be overcome by the reversible logic circuits designed using quantum gates, the essential elements for quantum computing. Quantum computing is an emerging area of research which finds application in optical computing, DNA computing, cryptography, low power CMOS design, digital signal processing and nanotechnology.
In the current scenario, power consumption, speed, size and heat dissipation are the huge challenge in the semiconductor industries. When the size of the single computing element is reduced then the speed can be improved and also if the power dissipation is reduced then the heat dissipation will be less. The possible solution for these two problems is the Reversible Logic and Quantum Cellular Automata (QCA). The Reversible Logic is considered to be the promising technology to the future Quantum computer technologies. The Reversible Logic gates prune the power dissipation to a larger extent. In this paper Novel Reversible Gates are proposed with Reversibility and Universality. The Arithmetic and Logic Unit (ALU) is designed with the proposed Reversible Gates in Reversible Logic. The designed Arithmetic and Logic unit is evaluated in QCA with the required specifications. The Arithmetic and Logic Unit is designed by setting the control inputs for each unit. The parameters taken into account are Quantum Cost (QC), Garbage Outputs (GO), Constant Inputs (CI), Area, Number of Cells and Simulation Time. The proposed ALU adopting Novel gates finds utilization in low power applications. Also it can be used as the module in the Quantum computers due to its reduced Quantum Cost and Garbage outputs. The Proposed design extends its applications over Quantum Computing, Optical Computing, Nanotechnology and DNA mapping.
Abstract: Reversible logic is one of the most important issues at the moment and has a wide range of applications, such as low power CMOS, quantum computing, nanotechnol- ogy, cryptography, optical computing, DNA computing, and -digital signal processing (DSP), quantum Dot automata for mobile, communication, computer graphics. It is not possible to detect quantum computing without the implementation of a postponed brain operation. The main objectives of design are logical thinking to reduce quantum costs, circuit depths and the amount of waste disposal. This paper provides basic logical retrospective gates, which in the construction of a highly sophisticated system with retractable circuits as part of the old and unable to perform the most complex operations using quantum computers. Reversible circuits form the basic building block of quantum computers as all quantum functions are reversed. Quantum Computing is an emerging technology that offers significant advantages over classical computation with regard to speed, circuit density and heat dissipation. These future computers employs the reversibility property to make the computations faster. In contrast to conventional computers, quantum computers can restore the input bits uniquely after the logic block is evaluated, as input and output bits exhibits one-to-one correlation. To make the best use of this technology with existing limitations ,this paper focuses on building quantum adder circuits with less gate-count using IBM Qiskit. The Qiskit output should be analogous to the conventional output. Also to analyze the working of quantum circuits in layout structure, "Quantum Dot Cellular Automata(QCA)" technology is employed. In this approach, the reversible adder design is executed using the QCA designer tool with efficient formulation and novel arrangement of QCA cells. The proposed design has better complexity than other previous works with a declined number of gate-count, cell-count, delay and area.
The NAND, NOT, and NOR logic gates which are utilised to realise the hardware modules of the system, are examples of basic classical logic gates that make up the hardware basics of electronic circuit systems. In addition to this, a useful system has been described for designing and implementing quantum processors by using reversible logic gates to analyse the performance of ALUs. Additionally, it shows that QCA might be used in quantum computers, assuming that the underlying technology can be made workable. When considering energy-efficient computations, reversible or information-lossless circuits are crucial for digital signal processing, communication, computer graphics, and cryptography. By preventing information loss, reversible logic is utilised to lessen the power dissipation that occurs in classical circuits, which is particularly promising because it allows for extremely low power computations like nano-computing for quantum processors. Because bits of information are lost during logic operations, typical digital circuits waste a lot of energy. It is well known that an Arithmetic and Logical Unit is one of the most fundamental operational units in the quantum processor (ALU). The design and implementation of an innovative r/q 16-bit ALU that improves the overall performance of quantum processors while carrying out the task in the digital signal processing domain are discussed in this study. When reversible gates were used in place of logic gates, the power dissipation in terms of information bit loss was significantly reduced. Simulation of these circuits is done by QCA Designer tool and language used for programming is very high-speed hardware integrated circuit hardware descriptive language, Verilog HDL. The power and delay analysis of the various sub modules is performed and a comparison with the traditional circuits is also carried out. The designed ALU has better efficiency as it has less power loses and reduction in power loss upto 39 % is obtained.
