Abstract

In this work we have studied, by Monte Carlo computer simulation, several properties that characterize the damage spreading in the Ising model, defined in Bravais lattices (the square and the triangular lattices) and in the Sierpinski Gasket. First, we investigated the antiferromagnetic model in the triangular lattice with uniform magnetic field, by Glauber dynamics; The chaotic-frozen critical frontier that we obtained coincides , within error bars, with the paramegnetic-ferromagnetic frontier of the static transition. Using heat-bath dynamics, we have studied the ferromagnetic model in the Sierpinski Gasket: We have shown that there are two times that characterize the relaxation of the damage: One of them satisfy the generalized scaling theory proposed by Henley (critical exponent z~A/T for low temperatures). On the other hand, the other time does not obey any of the known scaling theories. Finally, we have used methods of time series analysis to study in Glauber dynamics, the damage in the ferromagnetic Ising model on a square lattice. We have obtained a Hurst exponent with value 0.5 in high temperatures and that grows to 1, close to the temperature TD, that separates the chaotic and the frozen phases

Mixing heat-bath and Glauber dynamics: damage spreading in the Ising model

Ananias M. Mariz, Hans Jürgen Herrmann

The authors study damage spreading in the Ising model, on a square lattice, by a Monte Carlo approach, using a general 'f-dynamics' (0<or=f<or=1) which reproduces, for f=0 the well known heat-bath dynamics and for f=1 Glauber dynamics. They find, for initially small damage, a critical value f c =0.50+or-0.03 as the threshold for damage spreading. For f c <f<or=1 the damage is non-zero only for T c <T<T 0 (f), where T c is the usual critical temperature and T 0 (f) rises with f like T 0 (f)-T c infinity (f-f c ) alpha ( alpha =0.83+or-0.08). For T c <or=T the damage D(T,f) seems to satisfy the scaling relation D(T,f) approximately mod 1n(f-f c ) mod -1 T((1-T c /T)/(f-f c ) alpha ).

Short-time critical dynamics of damage spreading in the two-dimensional Ising model

M. Leticia Rubio Puzzo, Ezequiel Vicente Albano

The short-time critical dynamics of propagation of damage in the Ising ferromagnet in two dimensions is studied by means of Monte Carlo simulations. Starting with equilibrium configurations at $T=\ensuremath{\infty}$ and magnetization $M=0$, an initial damage is created by flipping a small amount of spins in one of the two replicas studied. In this way, the initial damage is proportional to the initial magnetization ${M}_{0}$ in one of the configurations upon quenching the system at ${T}_{C}$, the Onsager critical temperature of the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic transition. It is found that, at short times, the damage increases with an exponent ${\ensuremath{\theta}}_{D}=1.915(3)$, which is much larger than the exponent $\ensuremath{\theta}=0.197$ characteristic of the initial increase of the magnetization $M(t)$. Also, an epidemic study was performed. It is found that the average distance from the origin of the epidemic $(⟨{R}^{2}(t)⟩)$ grows with an exponent ${z}^{\ensuremath{\ast}}\ensuremath{\approx}\ensuremath{\eta}\ensuremath{\approx}1.9$, which is the same, within error bars, as the exponent ${\ensuremath{\theta}}_{D}$. However, the survival probability of the epidemics reaches a plateau so that $\ensuremath{\delta}=0$. On the other hand, by quenching the system to lower temperatures one observes the critical spreading of the damage at ${T}_{D}\ensuremath{\simeq}0.51{T}_{C}$, where all the measured observables exhibit power laws with exponents ${\ensuremath{\theta}}_{D}=1.026(3)$, $\ensuremath{\delta}=0.133(1)$, and ${z}^{\ensuremath{\ast}}=1.74(3)$.

Study on dynamical critical exponents of the Ising model using the damage spreading method

F Wang, Naomichi Hatano, Masuo Suzuki

The dynamical behaviour of the Ising model with heat-bath dynamics is studied. According to our investigation of the model using the damage spreading method, the dynamical phase transition temperature is estimated as 4.52+or-0.03 for the 3D Ising model. The dynamical critical exponent z has been obtained as 2.16+or-0.04 for the 2D ferromagnet and 2.09+or-0.04 for the 3D Ising model. The scaling property of magnetization is obtained.

Simulação de Monte Carlo no modelo de Ising na rede quadrada

Murilo Lacerda Santos

In this work we study the magnetic properties of the ferromagnetic Ising model on a square lattice, in zero external magnetic eld, through Monte Carlo simulations. The initial part comprises the theoretical background and the simulations as the Monte Carlo code, the single histogram technique and the estimate of the error bars. For the particular four-spin cluster the exact results have been obtained and compared to the simulational ones. Such comparison granted a better understanding of the process of generating the computational data besides a way of conrming the correctness of the code. Together with the single histogram technique and the nite size scaling hypothesis. We have obtained the mean values of the magnetization, energy, specic heat, susceptibility and the Binder cumulant. It was possible to obtain the thermodynamic quantities as a function of temperature and the system size. It was evident the existence of a phase transition with its peculiar behavior. Accordingly, we have obtained the critical temperature as well as the critical exponents of the model. The values of the critical indices and the critical temperature agree well with the exact ones and those coming from other computational methods.

Spin-1 Ising model: Exact damage-spreading relations and numerical simulations

Aécia S. D. dos Anjos, Ananias M. Mariz, Fernando Dantas Nobre +1 more

The nearest-neighbor-interaction spin-1 Ising model is investigated within the damage-spreading approach. Exact relations involving quantities computable through damage-spreading simulations and thermodynamic properties are derived for such a model, defined in terms of a very general Hamiltonian that covers several spin-1 models of interest in the literature. Such relations presuppose translational invariance and hold for any ergodic dynamical procedure, leading to an efficient tool for obtaining thermodynamic properties. The implementation of the method is illustrated through damage-spreading simulations for the ferromagnetic spin-1 Ising model on a square lattice. The two-spin correlation function and the magnetization are obtained, with precise estimates of their associated critical exponents and of the critical temperature of the model, in spite of the small lattice sizes considered. These results are in good agreement with the universality hypothesis, with critical exponents in the same universality class of the spin- 12 Ising model. The advantage of the present method is shown through a significant reduction of finite-size effects by comparing its results with those obtained from standard Monte Carlo simulations.

Damage spreading in the Ising model with a microcanonical constraint

F. G. Brady Moreira, Adauto J. F. de Souza, Ananias M. Mariz

We study damage spreading in the ferromagnetic Ising model, on the square lattice, by performing numerical simulations in the microcanonical ensemble. Although the damage spreads for all temperature values, a dynamical critical phenomenon is observed at ${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{d}}$=1.020(2)${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{C}}$ (${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{C}}$ is the Curie temperature): For T\ensuremath{\ge}${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{d}}$ the damage D(t) is insensitive to its initial value D(0), while for T${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{d}}$ a weak dependence on D(0) is present in such a way that for each T there are two values of D(t) corresponding to the initial conditions D(0)1/2 and D(0)>1/2. We have also identified a convenient order parameter to characterize the transition occurring at ${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{d}}$. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.
