Excited-state quantum phase transitions in bosonic lattice systems

Michal Macek

Concentrating on bosonic lattice systems, we ask whether and how Excited State Quantum Phase Transition (ESQPT) singularities occur in condensed matter systems with ground state QPTs. We study in particular the spectral singularities above the ground-state phase diagram of the boson Hubbard model. As a general prerequisite, we point out the analogy between ESQPTs and van Hove singularities (vHss).

Quantum Phase Transition for γ -Soft Nuclei

Jan Jolie, Richard F. Casten, Peter von Brentano +1 more

We examine a quantum phase transition in $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-soft nuclei, where the O(6) limit is simultaneously a dynamical symmetry of the U(6) group of the interacting boson model and a critical point of a prolate-oblate phase transition. This is the only example of phase transitional behavior that can be described analytically for a finite $s,d$ boson system.

Quantum Phases of a Multimode Bosonic Field Coupled to Flat Electronic Bands

Simone De Liberato, Cristiano Ciuti

We investigate the quantum phases of systems in which a multimode bosonic field is coupled to the transitions between two flat electronic bands. In the literature, such systems are usually modeled using a single or multimode Dicke model, leading to the prediction of superradiant quantum phase transitions for large enough couplings. We show that the physics of these systems is remarkably richer than previously expected, with the system continuously interpolating between a Dicke model exhibiting a superradiant quantum phase transition and a quantum Rabi model with no phase transition.
