Adapted-operator representations: Selective versus collective properties of quantum networks

Alexander Otte, Günter Mahler A

Based on local unitary operators acting on n-dimensional Hilbert spaces, we investigate selective and collective operator basis sets for N-particle quantum networks. Selective cluster operators are used to derive the properties of maximum entangled states (Bell states) for any n and N. Collective operators are convenient to account for fundamental or operational indistinguishability. For permutation symmetry the respective Hilbert-space dimension is only polynomial in N, and is governed by strong selection rules. These selection rules can be exploited for the design of decoherence-free subspaces as well as for the implementation of efficient routes to entanglement if suspended switching between states of different symmetry classes could be realized.

Switching and Swapping of Quantum Information: Entropy and Entanglement Level

Marek Sawerwain, Joanna Wiśniewska, Roman Gielerak

Information switching and swapping seem to be fundamental elements of quantum communication protocols. Another crucial issue is the presence of entanglement and its level in inspected quantum systems. In this article, a formal definition of the operation of the swapping local quantum information and its existence proof, together with some elementary properties analysed through the prism of the concept of the entropy, are presented. As an example of the local information swapping usage, we demonstrate a certain realisation of the quantum switch. Entanglement levels, during the work of the switch, are calculated with the Negativity measure and a separability criterion based on the von Neumann entropy, spectral decomposition and Schmidt decomposition. Results of numerical experiments, during which the entanglement levels are estimated for systems under consideration with and without distortions, are presented. The noise is generated by the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and the intrinsic decoherence is modelled by the Milburn equation. This work contains a switch realisation in a circuit form-built out of elementary quantum gates, and a scheme of the circuit which estimates levels of entanglement during the switch's operating.

Operational Causality Without Definite Order: Certifying Indefinite Causal Structure via a Causal Inequality and Causal Witness

Horace T. Crogman

Quantum processes with indefinite causal order challenge the classical assumption that operations must occur in a single fixed temporal sequence. The quantum switch provides a concrete setting in which two operation orders, A≺B and B≺A, are coherently controlled by a quantum system. In the strict process matrix formulation of the lazy guess your neighbour’s input (LGYNI) game, however, quantum theory, including the quantum switch, does not violate the standard causal inequality when probabilities are computed solely from local instruments. In this work, we study an extended control-assisted operational protocol in which the control system of the quantum switch is measured and used to define the task output. We compare increasingly expressive strategy classes, including single-qubit SU(2) operations, product target-ancilla operations, and entangling Cartan-decomposed two-qubit operations with generalized POVMs. Restricted models saturate or remain below the 3/4 fixed-order benchmark, whereas the optimized Cartan + ancilla + POVM strategy reaches Psuccext≈0.83596, demonstrating enhanced task performance within the extended protocol. The optimized strategy remains operationally no-signaling to numerical precision and retains its extended protocol advantage under more than 25% white noise admixture. These results identify the operational resources required for control-assisted quantum switch enhancement and support the view that indefinite temporal order can be used as a quantum informational resource without implying a breakdown of operational causality.
