A Programmable and Reconfigurable Photonic Simulator for Classical XY Models

Jiayi Ouyang, Yuxuan Liao, Xue Feng +6 more

In this work, we proposed and experimentally demonstrated a photonic simulator for XY models, which is a typical kind of classical spin models. By encoding the XY spins on the phase term of the input light field, the corresponding XY Hamiltonian could be performed on the output light intensities. The simulator is mainly based on a programmable and reconfigurable optical vector-matrix multiplication system, which can map arbitrary XY models within the dimensionality limit. Here, we demonstrated the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in a two-dimensional XY model, in which the expectation values of some observables are calculated and consistent with the theory. Besides, we performed the ground state search of two 25-spin XY models with different spin connections and coupling strengths. Our proposal paves a new way to investigate the XY spin system.

Dynamic finite-size effect in the two-dimensional classical XY model

Suhk Kun Oh, Chang No Yoon, Jean Soo Chung +1 more

Explicit dynamic finite-size scaling in the time-dependent correlation functions for the two-dimensional classical XY model is explored. The dynamic scaling method, proposed by us previously, is utilized for finding the time scaling variables of the model. It shows nontrivial dynamic finite-size scaling behavior near and below TKT for the total spin correlation function. Since the model is critical for all temperatures below TKT, the time scaling exponent is markedly different from that of the three-dimensional classical XY model at short times. There also appears to be another dynamic scaling region with a different time scaling exponent at T⩽TKT for a fairly wide intermediate time interval.

A numerical study on the aging of two-dimensional spin systems

Lei Xiao-wei, Bo Zheng, Ying He-Ping +1 more

With a large-scale Monte Carlo simulation, the aging of the two-dimensional dynamic Ising and XY models is numerically studied. Starting from a disordered state, the systems are quenched to critical temperature Tc and then evolve according to dynamics of model A. By calculating the autocorrelation function A(t,t′) we observe the aging phenomenon for both spin systems. Then, relatively accurate values of the dynamic critical exponent λc and z are estimated. Especially, we confirm that for the two-dimensional XY model, there is a strong logarithmic correction to scaling in the dynamic relaxation starting from a completely disordered.
