Abstract

standard spin-basis representation. We prove that at zero temperature, the magnetization is along the z direction i.e.,hs x i = hs y i = 0 (everywhere on the chain). We then analytically calculatehs z i and the two-point correlation functions of s z . By analytically diagonalizing the reduced density matrices, we calculate the Schmidt rank, von Neumann and Renyi entanglement entropies for: 1. Any partition of the chain into two pieces (not necessarily in the middle) and 2. L consecutive spins centered in the middle. Further, we identify entanglement Hamiltonians (Eqs. 40 and 50). We prove a small lemma (Lemma 1) on the combinatorics of lattice paths using the reflection principle to relate and calculate the Motzkin walk ’height’ to spin expected values. We also calculate the, closely related, (scaled) correlation functions of Brownian excursions. The known features of this model are summarized in a table in Sec. I.

Entanglement and correlation functions of the quantum Motzkin spin-chain

Ramis Movassagh

We present exact results on the exactly solvable spin chain of Bravyi et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 207202 (2012)]. This model is a spin one chain and has a Hamiltonian that is local and translationally invariant in the bulk. It has a unique (frustration free) ground state with an energy gap that is polynomially small in the system’s size (2n). The half-chain entanglement entropy of the ground state is 12logn+const.[Bravyi et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 207202 (2012)]. Here we first write the Hamiltonian in the standard spin-basis representation. We prove that at zero temperature, the magnetization is along the z-direction, i.e., ⟨sx⟩=⟨sy⟩=0 (everywhere on the chain). We then analytically calculate ⟨sz⟩ and the two-point correlation functions of sz. By analytically diagonalizing the reduced density matrices, we calculate the Schmidt rank, von Neumann, and Rényi entanglement entropies for the following: 1. Any partition of the chain into two pieces (not necessarily in the middle) and 2. L consecutive spins centered in the middle. Further, we identify entanglement Hamiltonians (Eqs. (49) and (59)). We prove a small lemma (Lemma (1)) on the combinatorics of lattice paths using the reflection principle to relate and calculate the Motzkin walk “height” to spin expected values. We also calculate the, closely related (scaled), correlation functions of Brownian excursions. The known features of this model are summarized in a table in Sec. I.

Entanglement, combinatorics and finite-size effects in spin chains

Bernard Nienhuis, Massimo Campostrini B, Pasquale Calabrese

We carry out a systematic study of the exact block entanglement in the XXZ spin chain at Δ = −1/2. We present the first analytic expressions for reduced density matrices for n spins in a chain of length L (for n ≤6 and arbitrary but odd L ) for a truly interacting model. The entanglement entropy and the moments of the reduced density matrix and its spectrum are then easily derived. We explicitly construct the 'entanglement Hamiltonian' as the logarithm of this matrix. Exploiting the degeneracy of the ground state, we find the scaling behavior of the entanglement of the zero-temperature mixed state.

Fourth-neighbour two-point functions of the XXZ chain and the fermionic basis approach

Frank Göhmann, Raphael Kleinemühl, Alexander Weiße

Abstract We give a descriptive review of the fermionic basis approach to the theory of correlation functions of the XXZ quantum spin chain. The emphasis is on explicit formulae for short-range correlation functions which will be presented in a way that allows for their direct implementation on a computer. Within the fermionic basis approach a huge class of stationary reduced density matrices, compatible with the integrable structure of the model, assumes a factorized form. This means that all expectation values of local operators and all two-point functions, in particular, can be represented as multivariate polynomials in only two functions ρ and ω and their derivatives with coefficients that are rational in the deformation parameter q of the model. These coefficients are of ‘algebraic origin’. They do not depend on the choice of the density matrix, which only impacts the form of ρ and ω . As an example we work out in detail the case of the grand canonical ensemble at temperature T and magnetic field h for q in the critical regime. We compare our exact results for the fourth-neighbour two-point functions with asymptotic formulae for h , T = 0 and for finite h and T .

Density matrix elements and entanglement entropy for the spin-1/2 XXZ chain at Δ = 1/2

Jun Sato, Masahiro Shiroishi

We have analytically obtained all the density matrix elements up to six lattice sites for the spin-1/2 Heisenberg XXZ chain at Δ = 1/2. We use the multiple integral formula of the correlation function for the massless XXZ chain derived by Jimbo and Miwa. As for the spin–spin correlation functions, we have newly obtained the fourth- and fifth-neighbour transverse correlation functions. We have calculated all the eigenvalues of the density matrix and analyse the eigenvalue distribution. Using these results the exact values of the entanglement entropy for the reduced density matrix up to six lattice sites have been obtained. We observe that our exact results agree quite well with the asymptotic formula predicted by the conformal field theory.

Exact evaluation of density matrix elements for the Heisenberg chain

Jun Sato, Masahiro Shiroishi, Minoru Takahashi

We have obtained all the density matrix elements on six lattice sites for the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain via the algebraic method based on the quantum Knizhnik–Zamolodchikov equations. Several interesting correlation functions, such as chiral correlation functions, dimer–dimer correlation functions, etc, have been analytically evaluated. Furthermore, we have calculated all the eigenvalues of the density matrix and analyse the eigenvalue distribution. As a result, the exact von Neumann entropy for the reduced density matrix on six lattice sites has been obtained.

Entanglement Hamiltonians of lattice models via the Bisognano-Wichmann theorem

Giuliano Giudici, Tiago Mendes-Santos, Pasquale Calabrese +1 more

The modular (or entanglement) Hamiltonian correspondent to the half-space bipartition of a quantum state uniquely characterizes its entanglement properties. However, in the context of lattice models, its explicit form is analytically known only for the two spin chains and certain free theories in one dimension. In this work, we provide a thorough investigation of entanglement Hamiltonians in lattice models obtained via the Bisognano-Wichmann theorem, which provides an explicit functional form for the entanglement Hamiltonian itself in quantum field theory. Our study encompasses a variety of one- and two-dimensional models, supporting diverse quantum phases and critical points, and, most importantly, scanning several universality classes, including Ising, Potts, and Luttinger liquids. We carry out extensive numerical simulations based on the density matrix renormalization group method, exact diagonalization, and quantum Monte Carlo. In particular, we compare the exact entanglement properties and correlation functions to those obtained applying the Bisognano-Wichmann theorem on the lattice. We carry out this comparison on both the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the entanglement Hamiltonian, and expectation values of correlation functions and order parameters. Our results evidence that as long as the low-energy description of the lattice model is well captured by a Lorentz-invariant quantum field theory, the Bisognano-Wichmann theorem provides a qualitatively and quantitatively accurate description of the lattice entanglement Hamiltonian. The resulting framework paves the way to direct studies of entanglement properties utilizing well-established statistical mechanics methods and experiments.
