Analysis of Dissipation Mechanisms for Cesium Rydberg Atoms in Magic-Wavelength Optical Trap

Shaofeng Fan, Yang Liu, Wen-Yuan Liu +3 more

A magic optical dipole trap (ODT) can confine atoms in the ground state and a highly excited state with the same light shifts, resulting in a long-range coherent lifetime between them, which plays an important role in high-fidelity quantum logic gates, multi-body physics and other quantum information. Here, we use a sum-over-states model to calculate the dynamic polarizabilities of the 6S1/2 ground state and 46S1/2 Rydberg state of Cs atoms and identify corresponding magic wavelengths and magic detunings for trapping the two states in the range of 900–1950 nm. Then, we analyze the robustness of the magic condition and the feasibility of the experimental operation. Furthermore, we estimate the trapping lifetime of Cs Rydberg atoms by considering different dissipation mechanisms, such as photon scattering and photoionization in the magic ODT. The photoexcitation and photoionization of Cs atoms under the action of three-step laser pulses are calculated by the rate equation. The presented results for magic-wavelength ODTs are of great significance for quantum information and quantum computing based on Rydberg atoms.

Dissipative entanglement preparation via Rydberg antiblockade and Lyapunov control

Zong-Xing Ding, Chang-Sheng Hu, Li-Tuo Shen +3 more

Abstract Preparation of entangled steady states via dissipation and pumping in Rydberg atoms has been recently found to be useful for quantum information processing. The driven-dissipative dynamics is closely related to the natural linewidth of the Rydberg states and can be usually modulated by engineering the thermal reservior. Instead of modifying the effectively radiative decay, we propose an alternatively optimized scheme, which combines the resonant Rydberg antiblockade excitation and the Lyapunov control of the ground states to speed up the prepration of the singlet state for two interacting Rydberg atoms. The acceleration process strongly depends on the initial state of the system with respect to the initial coherence between the singlet state and decoherence-sensitive bright state. We study the optimal parameter regime for fast entanglement preparation and the robustness of the fidelity against random noises. The numerical results show that a fidelity above 0.99 can be achieved around 0.4 ms with the current experimental parameters. The scheme may be generalized for preparation of more complicate multi-atom entangled states.

Dissipative preparation of multipartite Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states of Rydberg atoms*

Chong Yang, Dongxiao Li, Xiao-Qiang Shao

The multipartite Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) states play an important role in large-scale quantum information processing. We utilize the polychromatic driving fields and the engineered spontaneous emissions of Rydberg states to dissipatively drive three- and four-partite neutral atom systems into the steady GHZ states, at the presence of the next-nearest neighbor interaction of excited Rydberg states. Furthermore, the introduction of quantum Lyapunov control can help us optimize the dissipative dynamics of the system so as to shorten the convergence time of the target state, improve the robustness against the spontaneous radiations of the excited Rydberg states, and release the limiting condition for the strengths of the polychromatic driving fields. Under the feasible experimental conditions, the fidelities of three- and four-partite GHZ states can be stabilized at 99.24 % and 98.76 %, respectively.
