Controlling the collision between two solitons in the condensates by a double-barrier potential

Abstract

We present an analytical solution of two solitons of Bose—Einstein condensates trapped in a double-barrier potential by using a multiple-scale method. In the linear case, we find that the stable spots of the soliton formation are at the top of the barrier potential and at the region of barrier potential absence. For weak nonlinearity, it is shown that the height of the barrier potential has an important effect on the dark soliton dynamical properties. Especially, in the case of regarding a double-barrier potential as the output source of the solitons, the collision spots between two dark solitons can be controlled by the height of the barrier potential.

Controlling soliton collision behaviors in the condensates by the height of barrier potential

Z. J. Li, F. Li, L. L. Zhang

We study the linear stability and collision characteristics of the solitons of the Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) trapped in two barrier potentials. It is shown that the soliton obtained at the top of the barrier potential is stable. Especially, when the two barrier potentials are considered as the output source of the dark solitons, the collision spots and pattern (such as chase, head-on or localization and through collision) of two solitons may be manipulated by the height of the barrier potential.

Effect of a barrier potential on soliton dynamical characteristics in condensates

Jin-Hui Li

By using the multiple-scale method, this paper analytically studies the effect of a barrier potential on the dynamical characteristics of the soliton in Bose–Einstein condensates. It is shown that a stable soliton is exhibited at the top of the barrier potential and the region of the absence of the barrier potential. Meanwhile, it is found that the height of the barrier potential has an important effect on the dark soliton dynamical characteristics in the condensates. With the increase of height of the barrier potential, the amplitude of the dark soliton becomes smaller, its width is narrower, and the soliton propagates more slowly.

Soliton dynamical properties of Bose—Einstein condensates trapped in a double square well potential

Jin-Hui Li, Zhi-Jian Li

We first present an analytical solution of the single and double solitions of Bose—Einstein condensates trapped in a double square well potential using the multiple-scale method. Then, we show by numerical calculation that a dark soliton can be transmitted through the square well potential. With increasing depth of the square well potential, the amplitude of the dark soliton becomes larger, and the soliton propagates faster. In particular, we treat the collision behaviour of the condensates trapped in either equal or different depths of the double square well potential. If we regard the double square well potential as the output source of the solitons, the collision locations (position and time) between two dark solitons can be controlled by its depth.

The modulation of soliton dynamics in Bose–Einstein condensate by a double square well potential

Zhiqiang Zhang, Tie-Zhu Yang, Shusheng Meng +1 more

By using multiple-scale method, we analytically study the soliton dynamics of Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) trapped in a double square well potential. It is shown that dark soliton can be stable, which is generated in BEC trapped in a double square well. The amplitude and the width of dark soliton are related to the initial position of the soliton. Within the double square well, because of the confinement of the potential, the amplitude of the dark soliton is larger, while the width of the dark soliton is smaller. Furthermore, we also find that the amplitude and the width of the soliton are closely related to the depth of the double square well. With the increase of the depth, the amplitude of the dark soliton increases remarkably, while the width of the dark soliton decreases slowly.

Controlling of Fusion of Two Solitons in a Two-Component Condensate by an Anharmonic External Potential

Zhiqiang Zhang, Denglong Wang, Xiao‐Qing Luo +2 more

By using the multiple-scale method, we analytically study dynamical properties of two-component Bose-Einstein condensates trapped in a harmonic plus quartic anharmonic potential. It is shown that the anharmonic potential has an important effect on the dark solitons of the condensates. In particular, when the strength of the anharmonic external potential increases, the fusion of the two solitons becomes faster. This implies that the fusion of the two solitons can be controlled by an anharmonic potential.

SOLITON ON THE SEMI-INFINITE BAND GAP OF BEC IN AN OPTICAL LATTICE

D. L. Wang, X. H. Yan

By developing a multiple-scale method, we study analytically the dynamics of the soliton inside the semi-infinite band gap (SIBG) of quasi-one-dimensional Bose–Einstein condensates trapped in an optical lattice. In the linear case, a stable condition of soliton formation is obtained. For a weak nonlinearity, whether there occurs a spatially propagating or localized gap soliton is determined by the lattice depth. Meanwhile, we predict the existence of the dark (bright) gap solitons for the repulsive (attractive) interactions in the SIBG, different from that of the gap solitons in other energy gaps. And the collision of two dark (or bright) solitons is nearly elastic under a safe range of atomic numbers. An experimental protocol is further designed for observing these phenomena.
