Measure of nonclassical correlation in coherence vector representation

Abstract

We consider the coherence-vector representation of a bipartite state and obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a zero-discord state. Based on this, a measure of quantum, classical, and total amount of correlations in bipartite states is proposed in this representation. Analytical expressions for this measure are available for any bipartite states. Our measure of nonclassical correlation coincides with the geometric measure of quantum discord for some particular states.

Quantifying nonclassicality with local unitary operations

Sevag Gharibian

We propose a measure of nonclassical correlations in bipartite quantum states based on local unitary operations. We prove that the measure is nonzero if and only if the quantum discord is nonzero; this is achieved via a new characterization of zero discord states in terms of the state's correlation matrix. Moreover, our scheme can be extended to ensure that the same relationship holds even with a generalized version of quantum discord in which higher-rank projective measurements are allowed. We next derive a closed-form expression for our scheme in the cases of Werner states and $(2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}N)$-dimensional systems. The latter reveals that for $(2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}N)$-dimensional states, our measure reduces to the geometric discord [Daki\ifmmode \acute{c}\else \'{c}\fi{} et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 190502 (2010)]. A connection to the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality is shown. We close with a characterization of all maximally nonclassical, yet separable, $(2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}N)$-dimensional states of rank at most 2 (with respect to our measure).

A Geometrical Approach to Quantum Correlation

Seyed Javad Akhtarshenas, Hamidreza Mohammadi, saman karimi +1 more

A general state of an n m system is a classical-quantum state if and only if its associated left-correlation matrix has rank no larger than m-1. Based on this condition, a computable measure of quantum discord is presented, which coincides with the tight lower bound on the geometric measure of discord. Therefore such obtained tight lower bound fully captures the quantum correlation of a bipartite system, so it can be used as a measure of discord in its own right. Accordingly, a vanishing tight lower bound on the geometric discord is a necessary and sufficient condition for a state to be zero-discord.

Multipartite Generalization of Quantum Discord

Chandrashekar Radhakrishnan, Mathieu Laurière, Tim Byrnes

A generalization of quantum discord to multipartite systems is proposed. A key feature of our formulation is its consistency with the conventional definition of discord in bipartite systems. It is by construction zero only for systems with classically correlated subsystems and is a non-negative quantity, giving a measure of the total nonclassical correlations in the multipartite system with respect to a fixed measurement ordering. For the tripartite case, we show that the discord can be decomposed into contributions resulting from changes induced by nonclassical correlation breaking measurements in the conditional mutual information and tripartite mutual information. The former gives a measure of the bipartite nonclassical correlations and is a non-negative quantity, while the latter is related to the monogamy of the nonclassical correlations.

Discordlike correlation of bipartite coherence

Yu Jing Guo, Sumit Goswami

Quantum discord has been studied extensively as a measure of nonclassical correlations which includes entanglement as a subset. Although it is well known that nonzero discord can exist without entanglement, the origin of quantum discord is not well understood as compared to entanglement, which manifests itself more simply as inseparable higher-dimensional quantum superposition. In this paper we establish the discordlike correlation of bipartite coherence and then compare it to quantum discord. Consequently, we show that the minimum of the discordlike correlation of coherence coincides with the original quantum discord. This demonstrates quantum discord as the irreducible correlated bipartite coherence. In addition, the discordlike correlated coherence is shown to admit the postulates of the quantum resource theory (QRT), although the original quantum discord is not a ``good'' candidate under the QRT. We also find that the relative entropy measure induced from the discordlike coherence is a well-defined coherence measure for bipartite states.

Correlation measures in bipartite states and entanglement irreversibility

Shengjun Wu

We derive quantitative relations among several naturally defined measures of classical and nonclassical correlations in a bipartite quantum state. We also obtain an upper bound of entanglement irreversibility and a sufficient condition for reversible entanglement. The additivity of entanglement of formation is directly related to the additivity of quantum discord as well as a certain measure of classical correlation.
