Multiplexed optical link for ultra-stable frequency dissemination

Olivier Lopez, Bruno Chanteau, Vincent Roncin +6 more

We transfer the frequency of an ultra-stable laser over a cascaded optical link comprising two compensated links of 150 km and a repeater station. Each link passes through two important nodes of the telecommunication network and includes 114 km of Internet fiber simultaneously carrying data traffic, through a dense wavelength division multiplexing scheme. The metrological signal is inserted in and extracted from the communication network using bidirectional optical add-drop multiplexers. The repeater station is working independently without any remote control. The phase noise on the two links is compensated with the usual round-trip technique. The 300-km multiplexed cascaded link shows an Allan deviation of 3×10-15at one second and 7×10-20at 20 hours. This work paves the way to a wide dissemination of ultra stable optical clock signals between distant laboratories via the Internet network.

Interfering Heralded Single Photons from Two Separate Silicon Nanowires Pumped at Different Wavelengths

Xiang Zhang, Runyu Jiang, Bryn A. Bell +3 more

Practical quantum photonic applications require on-demand single photon sources. As one possible solution, active temporal and wavelength multiplexing has been proposed to build an on-demand single photon source. In this scheme, heralded single photons are generated from different pump wavelengths in many temporal modes. However, the indistinguishability of these heralded single photons has not yet been experimentally confirmed. In this work, we achieve 88% ± 8% Hong–Ou–Mandel quantum interference visibility from heralded single photons generated from two separate silicon nanowires pumped at different wavelengths. This demonstrates that active temporal and wavelength multiplexing could generate indistinguishable heralded single photons.

WDM polarization-entanglement by cascaded optical nonlinearities in a PPLN waveguide

Shin Arahira, Hitoshi Murai

We report generation of wavelength-multiplexed polarization-entangled photon-pairs by cascaded optical nonlinearities (sum-frequency-generation and parametric down conversion) in a periodically-poled LiNbO3waveguide device. The visibilities higher than 98% were achieved for all the evaluated wavelength channels.
