Abstract

In the five-level K-type atomic system, by using another control field to couple the excited level of the coupling transition to the sixth higher excited level, a six-level atomic system is constructed. In this system, the multiple electromagnetically induced two-photon transparency has been investigated. What is more, if choosing the parameters of the control fields properly the triple transparency window will reduce to a double one which means that the multiple electromagnetically induced two-photon transparency can be manipulated in this system. The physical interpretation of these phenomena is given in terms of the dressed states and the dark states.

Local Control of Two-Photon Absorption in a Six-Level Atomic System by Using a Coherent Perturbation Field

Jia Wen-Zhi, Shun-Jin Wang

If a coherent perturbation field is used to couple the excited level of the coupling transition in the five-level K-type atom with another higher excited level, the two-photon electromagnetically induced transparency can be locally modulated by altering the parameters of the additional perturbation field. With different detunings of the coherent perturbation field, the absorption peak or transparency window with sharp and high-contrast spectral feature can be generated in the two-photon absorption spectrum. The physical interpretation of these phenomena is given in terms of the dressed states.

Double Electromagnetically Induced Two-photon Transparency in a Five-level Atomic System

Hou Bang-pin

Double electromagnetically induced two-photon transparency in a five-level atomic system is studied by means of the semiclassical theory. The effects of the Rabi frequencies and the detunings for the external control-fields on the two-photon absorption spectra are also investigated. Finally, the explanations of these phenomena are given by using the dressed states.

Double-control quantum interferences in a four-level atomic system

Jian Qi Shen, Pu Zhang

A new scheme is suggested to manipulate the probe transitions (and hence the optical properties of atomic vapors) via double-control destructive and constructive quantum interferences. The influence of phase coherence between the two control transitions on the probe transition is also studied. The most remarkable feature of the present scheme is that the optical properties (absorption, transparency and dispersion) of an atomic system can be manipulated using this double-control multi-pathway interferences (multiple routes to excitation). It is also shown that a four-level system will exhibit a two-level resonant absorption because the two control levels (driven by the two control fields) form a dark state (and hence a destructive quantum interference occurs between the two control transitions). However, the present four-level system will exhibit electromagnetically induced transparency to the probe field when the three lower levels (including the probe level and the two control levels) form a three-level dark state. The present scenario has potential applications in new devices (e.g. logic gates and sensitive optical switches) and new techniques (e.g. quantum coherent information storage).

Double Electromagnetically Induced Single-photon Transparency in a Five-level K-scheme Atomic System

Hou Bang-pin

When the intermediate level in a three-level-scheme atom is coupled to an excited and a ground levels by two control fields, respectively, the atomic system exhibits the phenomenon of double electromagnetically induced single-photon transparency. The absorption spectra are related to the Rabi frequencies of the two control fields and the non-radiative decay rate.

Multiple electromagnetically induced transparency in a five-level atomic system

Xiao Hu

The absorption properties in an inverted-tripod scheme atomic system driven by the coherent fields are investigated by means of the semiclassical theory. The result obtained by means of numerical method indicates that by adjusting the Rabi frequencies of the coherent fields, there appear triple, double, single electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT).In the triple EIT,the location of transparent windows can be controlled by adjusting the detunings for the coherent fields, and changes continuously,i.e.there exist a series of continuous frequencies for the probe field propagating in an atomic medium without absorption in a certain range. Finally, the explanations of these phenomena are given by using the dressed states.
