Generation of a Super Strong Attosecond Pulse from an Atomic Superposition State Irradiated by a Shape-Optimized Short Pulse

Fu-Ming Guo, Yujun Yang, Jin Ming-Xing +2 more

Using a linearly polarized, phase-stabilized 3-fs driving pulse of 800 nm central wavelength shape-optimized on its ascending edge by its an amplitude-reduced pulse irradiating on a superposition state of the helium atom, we demonstrate theoretically the generation of a super strong isolated 176-attosecond pulse in the spectral region of 93–124 eV. The unusually high intensity of this attosecond pulse is marked by the Rabi-like oscillations emerging in the time-dependent populations of the ground state and the continuum during the occurrence of the electron recombination, which is for the first time observed in this work.

The enhancement of the attosecond pulse intensity by an intense short laser pulse irradiating an atom with coherent superposition state

Chen Ji

The scheme of the attosecond(asec) pulse intensity enhancement by an intense short laser pulse(duration of the pulse is several cycles) irradiating an atom with coherent superposition state is proposed. Our numerical results show that, this scheme also could generate an isolated asec pulse, furthermore the intensity of which is prominently enhanced, compared with the asec pulse generation of an intense short laser pulse irradiating an atom with ground state.

Selective excitation of metastable atomic states by femto- and attosecond laser pulses

Alexey D. Kondorskiy, Леонид Петрович Пресняков, Yuri V. Ralchenko

The possibility of achieving highly selective excitation of low metastable states of hydrogen and helium atoms by using short laser pulses with reasonable parameters is demonstrated theoretically. Interactions of atoms with the laser field are studied by solving the close-coupling equations without discretization. The parameters of laser pulses are calculated using different kinds of optimization procedures. For the excitation durations of hundreds of femtoseconds direct optimization of the parameters of one and two laser pulses with Gaussian envelopes is used to introduce a number of simple schemes of selective excitation. To treat the case of shorter excitation durations, optimal control theory is used and the calculated optimal fields are approximated by sequences of pulses with reasonable shapes. A way to achieve selective excitation of metastable atomic states by using sequences of attosecond pulses is introduced.
