Abstract

We propose a new method of decoy state quantum key distribution with a heralded single-photon source. Alice uses the parametric down-conversion to generate entangled photon-pairs, one of the pair is used as heralding photon. According to the results of the trigger detector the heralded photons are divided into trigger and non-trigger sets. The states of the photons in the trigger set are used as the signal states and the ones in the non-trigger sets are used as the decoy states. Because of the efficiency of the trigger detector, the two sets both have photons. The yield and error rate of the single-photon are estimated through the yield and error rate of the two sets. This method does not need changing the intensity of the photon source, is easy to implement. Analysis results show that this method can reach the same security distance as with a perfect single photon source; the key generation rate is increased a lot compared with the method with a heralded photon source and is approximately two thirds the rate of the three intensities decoy state quantum key distribution with a heralded photon source.

Decoy state quantum key distribution with a photon number resolved heralded single photon source

Tomoyuki Horikiri, Takayoshi Kobayashi

Recently a long distance and high key rate quantum key distribution (QKD) has become possible by the idea of the decoy state method. We show that a longer distance QKD is possible by utilizing a heralded single photon source (utilizing spontaneous parametric down-conversion) as a source instead of a weak coherent pulse (WCP) as proposed in the original decoy state method. Moreover, the key rate is improved by utilizing a presently available photon number resolving detector as a trigger detector of the heralded single photon source and it is shown to approach the key rate of the WCP.

Heralded Single Photon Source-Based Decoy-State Quantum Key Distribution with Dual Detectors

Yu Feng, Seounghun Lee, Semin Kim +2 more

In practical quantum key distribution (QKD) systems, the heralded single photon source (HSPS) based on parametric down-conversion (PDC) has attracted significant attentions from many researchers because its various advantages compared to the weak coherent source. We propose a heralded single photon source-based decoy-state QKD with dual detectors and demonstrate in a theoretical simulation that this method improves the performance of QKD system. The secure key generation rate is increased significantly with our proposal both in thermal and Poisson distributions of photons. The secure key rate produced by our scheme is higher than the state of the art key rate of current high-speed QKD system. The decoy-state QKD system using the heralded single photon source with dual detectors can be an important alternative for the present practical QKD systems.

Practical Nonorthogonal Decoy State Quantum Key Distribution with a Heralded Single Photon Source

Yuanyuan Zhou, Xuejun Zhou, Jun Gao +1 more

For the Bennett-Brassard 1984 (BB84) quantum key distribution, longer distance and higher key generation rate is shown with a heralded single photon source (HSPS). In this paper, the nonorthogonal encoding protocol SARG04 based on one vacuum and two weak decoy states with HSPS is presented. According to the public announcement of Alice's detection events, the overall gain of Bob's detector and quantum bit error rate (QBER) can be divided into two groups, triggered components and nontriggered components. We present a new protocol that use both triggered and nontriggered components to estimate the fraction and QBER of single-photon and two-photon pulses, and then deduce the final secure key generation rate. The final key generation rate over transmission distance is simulated, which shows that we can obtain a higher key rate than that of the existing methods.

Method of non-orthogonal decoy state quantum key distribution with heralded single photon source

Jun Gao

Based on the heralded single photon source (HSPS),the non-orthogonal (SARG04) decoy stateprotocol with one vacuum and two weak decoy states was deduced.Combining the two weak decoy statesin the above protocols,a simple protocol with one vacuum and one weak decoy state was presented for eas-ier implementation.Combining the passive decoy state method with the active decoy state method in theabove protocols, the non-trigger detection events on Bob's side were not discarded but were used to esti-mate the fractions and the quantum bit error rates (QBER) of single-photon and two-photon pulse and togenerate the secure key.The simulation results show that the key generation rate of quantum key distribu-tion (QKD) is increased by the passive decoy idea, that the key generation rate is close to the theoreticallimit of infinite decoy state protocol.Under the same implementation condition, the transmission distanceis longer and the key generation rate of QKD for SARG04 is higher than that of QKD for BB84.

In this paper, a new decoy state scheme for quantum key distribution with parametric down-conversion source is proposed. We use both three-intensity decoy states and their triggered and nontriggered components to estimate the fraction of single-photon counts and the quantum bit-error rate of single-photon pulses, and then deduce a more accurate value of the key generation rate. The final key rate over transmission distance is simulated, which shows that we can obtain a higher key rate than that of the existing methods, including our own earlier work.
