Hole–hole scattering in spin-polarized3He–HeII mixtures

Ayman S. Sandouqa, Mohamed K. Al-Sugheir, H. B. Ghassib

In this paper the Galitskii–Migdal–Feynman (GMF) formalism is applied to spin-polarized 3 He–HeII mixtures with special emphasis on the effect of the magnetic field on hole–hole scattering. For comparison purposes, the relative phase shifts for S- and P-waves, in both GMF and Brueckner–Bethe–Goldstone (BBG) formalisms, are calculated and analysed. Also, the corresponding scattering lengths are evaluated. In polarized mixtures, the S-wave pairing decreases because of the flip of one spin in the pair; whereas the magnetic field has no effect on P-wave pairing.

Spin waves in a persistent spin-current Fermi liquid

J. D. Feldmann, Kevin S. Bedell

We report two theoretical results for transverse spin waves, which arise in a system with a persistent spin current. Using Fermi liquid theory, we introduce a spin current in the ground state of a polarized or unpolarized Fermi liquid, and we derive the resultant spin waves using the Landau kinetic equation. The resulting spin waves have a ${q}^{1}$ and ${q}^{1/2}$ dispersion to leading order for the polarized and unpolarized systems, respectively.
