Randomized Benchmarking of Single-Qubit Gates in a 2D Array of Neutral-Atom Qubits

T. Xia, Martin Lichtman, Kara Maller +4 more

We characterize single-qubit Clifford gate operations with randomized benchmarking in a 2D array of neutral-atom qubits and demonstrate global and site selected gates with high fidelity. An average fidelity of F2=0.9983(14) is measured for global microwave-driven gates applied to a 49-qubit array. Single-site gates are implemented with a focused laser beam to Stark shift the microwaves into resonance at a selected site. At Stark selected single sites we observe F2=0.9923(7) and an average spin-flip crosstalk error at other sites of 0.002(9).

High-Fidelity Universal Gates in the 171 Yb Ground-State Nuclear-Spin Qubit

Juan A. Muniz, M. B. Stone, D. T. Stack +50 more

Arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms are a promising architecture for the realization of quantum computers. In order to run increasingly complex algorithms, it is advantageous to demonstrate high-fidelity and flexible gates between long-lived and highly coherent qubit states. In this work, we demonstrate a universal high-fidelity gate set with individually controlled and parallel application of single-qubit gates and two-qubit gates operating on the ground-state nuclear-spin qubit in arrays of tweezer-trapped 171 Yb atoms. We utilize the long lifetime, flexible control, and high gate fidelity of our system to characterize native gates using single- and two-qubit Clifford and symmetric subspace randomized-benchmarking circuits with more than 200 controlled- Z () gates applied to one or two pairs of atoms. We measure our two-qubit entangling gate fidelity to be 99.72(3)% (99.40(3)%) with (without) postselection. In addition, we introduce a simple and optimized method for calibration of multiparameter quantum gates. These results represent important milestones toward executing complex and general quantum computation with neutral atoms.

Coherent operations, entanglement, and progress toward quantum search in a large 2D array of neutral atom qubits

Martin Lichtman

Abstract : This report presents the results of the MQCO project and capstone extension during which a 2D array of neutralatom qubits was developed. The array was used to demonstrate high fidelity single qubit operations (F0.99-0.999)and moderate fidelity two-qubit entanglement, F=0.73. Technology development investigated compact lasersystems for Cs atom control, high performance and compact UHV cells for neutral atom qubit experiments, andMEMS beam scanners for qubit addressing.
