Abstract

Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has recently drawn significant attention, however, due to the broadcast nature of wireless channels, guaranteeing the security of SWIPT system is an important research area. In this paper, we propose and analyze a low feedback overhead and low signal processing cost scheme, that using transmit antenna selection (TAS) to enhance physical layer security, in a MISO SWIPT system. We formulate the power splitting ratio algorithm design as an optimization problem, which maximizes the secrecy rate of the valid receiver under transmit power and energy harvesting constraints. Through solving this problem, secrecy rate-energy function was derived. The results show that as the increasing of transmit number, the larger Rs-E region can be achieved.

On Secrecy Performance of MISO SWIPT Systems With TAS and Imperfect CSI

Gaofeng Pan, Hongjiang Lei, Yansha Deng +4 more

In this paper, a multiple-input single-output (MISO) simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system, including one base station (BS) equipped with multiple antennas, one desired single-antenna information receiver (IR), and N (N > 1) single-antenna energy-harvesting receivers (ERs) is considered. Assuming that the information signal to the desired IR may be eavesdropped by ERs if ERs are malicious, we investigate the secrecy performance of the target MISO SWIPT system when imperfect channel state information (CSI) is available and adopted for transmit antenna selection at the BS. Considering that each eavesdropping link experiences independent but not necessarily identically distributed Rayleigh fading, the closed-form expressions for the exact and the asymptotic secrecy outage probability, and the average secrecy capacity are derived and verified by simulations. Furthermore, the optimal power splitting factor is derived for each ER to realize the tradeoff between the energy harvesting and the information eavesdropping. Our results reveal the impact of the imperfect CSI on the secrecy performance of MISO SWIPT systems in the presence of multiple wiretap channels.

Security enhancement with joint transmit antenna selection and transmit beamforming under energy harvesting constraints

Sai Zhao, Maoxin Tian, Quanzhong Li +3 more

Summary This paper considers a multiuser multiple‐input single‐output (MISO) broadcasting system with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), which consists of one information receiver (IR) and several energy harvesting receivers (ERs) which are capable of eavesdropping the legitimate signals. For reducing cost and hardware complexity, transmit antenna selection (TAS) is applied in the transmitter. We aim to maximize the achievable secrecy rate under the individual energy harvesting constraint at the ERs and the transmit power constraint at the transmitter by jointly optimizing TAS, transmit beamforming, and artificial noise (AN). The joint optimization problem is a non‐convex mixed integer programming problem. We apply variable replacements to decouple the variable couplings and relax and approach the binary constraint by the difference of two convex constraints. Afterwards, penalty method and constrained concave convex procedure (CCCP) are applied to transform the relaxed problem into a sequence of semi‐definiteness programming (SDP) problems. Simulation results shows that our proposed joint optimization scheme is superior over existing non‐joint optimization schemes. This paper studies the joint transmit antenna selection (TAS), transmit beamforming, and artificial noise (AN) optimization in a multiple‐input multiple‐output (MISO) wiretap system with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT). The joint optimization problem is nonconvex and we propose a penalty method based scheme to solve it. The simulation results show that our joint optimization scheme is superior to other non‐joint optimization schemes.

Secrecy rate maximization for MISO multicasting SWIPT system with power splitting scheme

Miao Zhang, Kanapathippillai Cumanan, Alister Graham Burr

This paper considers transmit covariance matrix design for secrecy rate maximization problem in a multiple-input single-output (MISO) multicasting simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system. In order to enhance the performance of the system, artificial noise (AN) is added to the transmit signal in the design for the following purposes: to reduce the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the eavesdroppers and increase the harvested energy. We assume that all the channel-state-information (CSI) is perfectly known at the transmitter and all legitimate users are capable of simultaneously receiving information and harvesting energy. In addition, all the eavesdroppers are passive and they can harvest energy only when they are not intercepting or eavesdropping the messages intended for the legitimate users. The original secrecy rate maximization problem is not convex in terms of transmit and artificial covariance matrices as well as the power splitting (PS) ratio. In order to circumvent this non-convexity issue, we exploit the Charnes-Cooper Transformation and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) to convert this original problem into a convex one. However, this convex problem does not always yield the rank-one transmit and AN covariance matrices to obtain the solution of the original problem. Therefore, we analyze the optimal conditions and utilize a Gaussian randomization (GR) method to construct the rank-one solutions from the non-rank one results. Simulation results have been provided to demonstrate the performance of the proposed transmit covariance matrices design for MISO multicasting SWIPT system.

Secure Transmission Scheme for SWIPT in MISO Broadcast Channel with Confidential Messages and External Eavesdroppers

Haiyang Zhang, Yongming Huang, Chunguo Li +1 more

In this paper, we design a secure transmission scheme for multiple-input single-output (MISO) broadcast channel with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), where a multi-antenna transmitter simultaneously transmit independent confidential messages to multiple potentially malicious receivers, in the presence of external eavesdroppers. Our objective is to minimize the total transmit power while guaranteeing the security communication and energy harvesting constraints by jointly optimizing the transmit beamforming vectors, covariance of artificial noise, and power splitting ratios, which is non-convex optimization and hard to tackle. We first solve this non-convex problem by using the technique of semi-definite relaxation (SDR), and then prove that the relaxation is tight and thus achieves the globally optimal solution of the original problem. Simulation results are finally presented to demonstrate the performance of our proposed scheme.

Secure transmission scheme in MIMO communication systems with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer

Shaohang Wang, Baoyun Wang

In this paper, we study the secure transmission scheme in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), in which both power splitting (PS) receiver and artificial noise (AN) are taken into account. We aim to maximize the achievable secrecy rate at the desired receiver by jointly designing precoding matrix, AN covariance matrix and PS ratio at the desired receiver, under the total transmit power constraint and the minimum energy harvesting constraints at all the receivers. The formulated optimization problem is nonconvex and hard to tackle. Then, by transforming this problem into a canonical DC (difference of convex function) programming, we propose an iterative method to solve this problem, and analyze the convergence of the proposed algorithm. Simulation results are provided to show the efficiency of our proposed scheme.
