Abstract

In this paper, the performance of Tree-LDPC code 1 is presented based on the min-sum algorithm with scaling and the asymptotic performance in the water fall region is shown by density evolution. We presents that the Tree-LDPC code show a significant performance gain by scaling with the optimal scaling factor 3 which is obtained by density evolution methods. We also show that the performance of min-sum with scaling is as good as the performance of sum-product while the decoding complexity of min-sum algorithm is much lower than that of sum-product algorithm.

Optimized Min-Sum decoding algorithm for Low Density PC codes

Dewan Siam Shafiullah, Mohammad Rakibul Islam, Muhammad Mostafa Amir Faisal +1 more

Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) approaches Shannon -limit performance for binary field and long code lengths. However performance of binary LDPC code is degraded when the code word length is small. An optimized min-sum algorithm for LDPC code is proposed in this paper. In this algorithm unlike other decoding methods an optimization factor has been introduced in both check node and bit node of the Min-sum algorithm. The optimization factor is obtained before decoding program and the same factor is multiplied twice in one cycle. So the increased complexity is fairly low. Simulation results show that the proposed Optimized Min-Sum decoding algorithm performs very close to the Sum-Product decoding, while preserving the main features of the Min-Sum decoding, that is low complexity and independence with respect to noise variance estimation errors.

A Low-complexity Iterative Decoding Algorithm for LDPC Codes

Pan Yu

Among the decoding algorithms for low-density parity-check(LDPC) code,sum-product algorithm(SPA) has the optimal performance but high complexity, while min-sum algorithm has simple implementation complexity but worse performance.Considering this performance-complexity contradiction, some modified min-sum algorithms are proposed. In this paper, researches are done based on one of the modified min-sum algorithms that is close to SPA in performance but the way modifying fraction works is simplified.Simplified algorithm remains similar in performance to sum-product algorithm but has a remarkably reduced implementation complexity.

Iterative Decoding Performance Bounds for LDPC Codes on Noisy Channels

Chun-Hao Hsu, Achilleas Anastasopoulos

The asymptotic iterative decoding performances of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes using min-sum (MS) and sum-product (SP) decoding algorithms on memoryless binary-input output-symmetric (MBIOS) channels are analyzed in this paper. For MS decoding, the analysis is done by upper bounding the bit error probability of the root bit of a tree code by the sequence error probability of a subcode of the tree code assuming the transmission of the all-zero codeword. The result is a recursive upper bound on the bit error probability after each iteration. For SP decoding, we derive a recursively determined lower bound on the bit error probability after each iteration. This recursive lower bound recovers the density evolution equation of LDPC codes on the binary erasure channel (BEC) with inequalities satisfied with equalities. A significant implication of this result is that the performance of LDPC codes under SP decoding on the BEC is an upper bound of the performance on all MBIOS channels with the same uncoded bit error probability. All results hold for the more general multi-edge type LDPC codes.
