Abstract

In the present paper, we investigate the instability, adiabaticity, and controlling effects of external fields for a dark state in a homonuclear atom–tetramer conversion that is implemented by a generalized stimulated Raman adiabatic passage. We analytically obtain the regions for the appearance of dynamical instability and study the adiabatic evolution by a newly defined adiabatic fidelity. Moreover, the effects of the external field parameters and the spontaneous emissions on the conversion efficiency are also investigated.

Dynamical instability and adiabatic evolution of the atom–homonuclear–trimer dark state in a condensate system

This paper investigates the dynamical instability and adiabatic evolution of the atom–homonuclear–trimer dark state of a condensate system in a stimulated Raman adiabatic passage aided by Feshbach resonance. It obtains analytically the regions for the appearance of dynamical instability caused by the interparticle interactions. Moreover, the adiabatic property of the dark state is also studied in terms of a newly defined adiabatic fidelity. It shows that the nonlinear collisions have a negative effect on the adiabaticity of the dark state and hence reduce the conversion efficiency.

We study the formation of stable homonuclear and heteronuclear pentamers from ultracold atoms via a generalized stimulated Raman adiabatic passage scheme. The atom-molecule dark-state solutions for the system are obtained, and the linear instability and the adiabatic fidelity of the dark state are investigated. We also discuss the effects of external field parameters on the conversion efficiency.

Formation of a heteronuclear tetramer A3B via Efimov-resonance-assisted stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

We investigate the formation of a heteronuclear tetramer ${A}_{3}B$ by an Efimov-resonance-assisted stimulated Raman adiabatic passage scheme, which is considered a viable means of creating the homonuclear tetramer ${A}_{4}$ [H. Jing and Y. Jiang, Phys. Rev. A 77, 065601 (2008)]. The atom-molecule dark-state solution for the system is derived, and the adiabatic conversion from atoms to heteronuclear tetramers is studied via the concept of adiabatic fidelity. In addition, the effects of external field parameters (including Rabi pulse strength, width, and single photon detuning) on the conversion are discussed.

Linear instability and adiabatic fidelity for the dark state in a nonlinear atom-trimer conversion system

Shao-Ying Meng, Libin Fu, Jing Chen +1 more

We investigate the linear instability and the adiabatic fidelity of a dark state in a nonlinear atom-trimer conversion that is implemented by a stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP). We find that the interparticle interactions could induce the instability of the atom-trimer dark state in some parameter regimes. We also discuss the adiabatic evolution of the dark state in terms of a newly defined adiabatic fidelity. Based on our theoretical analysis, we propose a feasible two-photon STIRAP scheme that has high adiabatic fidelity, less instability, and therefore could yield high atom-trimer conversion efficiency.

Adiabatic evolution for the87Rb atom–molecule conversion system

Shao-Ying Meng, Libin Fu, Jie Liu

The adiabaticity of the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) for the 87Rb atom–molecule conversion in a condensate system is investigated in terms of a newly defined adiabatic fidelity. The evolution of the dark state in the STIRAP is simulated numerically by considering the interparticle interactions and spontaneous emissions of the excited molecular state. We find that these terms will reduce the adiabatic fidelity; however, one can still achieve higher adiabatic fidelity through optimizing the external parameters of the STIRAP. Our discussions are helpful in obtaining higher conversion efficiency from an atomic Bose–Einstein condensate to its molecular counterpart in experiment.

Dynamical stability of the dark state in an atom-heteronuclear-trimer conversion system

Shao-Ying Meng, Wu Wei, Bin Liu +1 more

We investigate the dynamical stability of a dark state of the atom-heteronuclear-trimer conversion system in a stimulated Raman adiabatic passage process. By casting the quantum Hamiltonian into an effective classical one and analyzing the eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian-Jacobi matrix obtained by linearizing the equations of motion around the fixed point corresponding to the dark state, we analytically obtain the condition for the occurrence of the dynamical instability of the atom-trimer dark state. Taking heteronuclear atoms of 87Rb and 41K as an example, we numerically give the unstable region. We find that the dynamical instability is induced by the interparticle interactions. Moreover, the occurrence of the dynamical instability depends on not only the emergence of the real or complex eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian-Jacobi matrix but also the scanning rate of the external fields.
