Abstract

We investigate the elastic scattering properties of strontium atoms at ultracold temperatures. The scattering parameters, such as s-wave scattering lengths, effective ranges and p-wave scattering lengths, are calculated for all stable isotope combinations of Sr atoms by the quantal method and semiclassical method, respectively. Good agreements are obtained. The scattering parameters are very sensitive to small changes of the reduced mass. Due to the repulsive interisotope and intraisotope s-wave scattering length and large elastic cross sections, 84 Sr— 86 Sr mixture is a good candidate to realize Bose—Bose quantum degenerate atomic gases.

Elastic scattering of sodium and cesium atoms at ultracold temperatures

Jicai Zhang, Kedong Wang, Yufang Liu +1 more

The elastic scattering properties in a mixture of sodium and cesium atoms are investigated at cold and ultracold temperatures. Based on the accurate interatomic potential for the NaCs mixture, the interspecies s-wave scattering lengths, the effective ranges and the p-wave scattering lengths are calculated by the quantal method and the semiclassical method, respectively. The s-wave scattering lengths are 512.7 a 0 for the singlet state and 33.4 a 0 for the triplet state. In addition, the spin-change and elastic cross sections are also calculated, and the g-wave shape resonance is found in the total elastic cross sections.

Accurate calculation of elastic scattering properties of potassium and cesium atoms at ultracold temperatures

Zhang Ji-Cai, Zunlue Zhu, Sun Jin-Feng

In this paper, we calculate the scattering parameters for collision between potassium and cesium atoms at ultracold temperatures, such as s-wave scattering length, effective range and p-wave scattering length, by the quantum method and semiclassical method, respectively. The singlet and the triplet elastic scattering cross sections between 39K and Cs atoms at ultracold temperatures are dominated by s-wave scattering, and shape resonance occurs with the increase of collision energy. There exist pronounced g-wave and d-wave shape resonances for the singlet and the triplet cross sections, respectively. In addition, s-wave scattering lengths are calculated by using the degenerate internet state approximation for selected hyperfine states of 41KCs.

Calculation of Elastic Scattering Properties in Ultracold Fermi–Bose and Bose–Bose Rb–K Vapor

Mustafa Kemal Öztürk, Süleyman Özçelik

The calculation of the elastic scattering properties of mixtures composed of ultracold Rb–K atoms is reported and compared with experimental results in detail. The improved potentials for both the singlet and triplet molecular states of Rb–K are presented, and the scattering lengths a t and the effective range r e are calculated with numeric and semiclassical methods for Rb–K in the triplet and singlet state. In addition, the convergence of these scattering properties depending on a K 0 parameter is investigated using quantum defect theory. Other results of the evaporative cooling that include the cross section and the spin–charge cross section, the rate coefficient as a function of the energy and ultralow temperature are also presented in this study.

Accurate calculation of elastic scattering properties of ultracold sodium atoms

Zhang Ji-Cai, Zhu Zun-L uuml e, Sun Jin-Feng

Based on the accurate singlet and triplet state interatomic potentials for Na2, a theoretical study of elastic scattering properties of sodium atoms at ultracold temperatures is reported in this paper. The s-wave scattering length, effective range, the p-wave scattering length and the number of bound states are calculated. The singlet and triplet elastic scattering cross section between sodium aotms at ultracold temperatures are dominated by s-wave scattering, and shape resonances occur with collision energy increasing. There exist pronounced f-wave and i-wave shape resonances for the singlet and triplet cross section. In addition, s-wave scattering length is calculated by using the degenerate internet state approximation for selected hyperfine states of sodium atoms. The results are in agreement with calculated values obtained by close-coupling method.

Elastic collision properties of ultracold calcium atoms

Jicai Zhang, Jinfeng Sun, Zunlue Zhu +1 more

The s-wave scattering lengths are obtained for all stable isotope combinations of Ca atoms and those values are very sensitive to small changes of the reduced mass. These results rely on a recent measurement of the 40 Ca– 40 Ca scattering length in a Bose condensate of 40 Ca and making small corrections to a Born–Oppenheimer potential that reproduces all known spectroscopic data. We find that the 42 Ca isotope has a scattering length of 417.5 a 0 and, thus, can be Bose condensed. The large interisotope scattering length between 43 Ca and 42 Ca indicates that sympathetic cooling of 43 Ca by 42 Ca atoms will be effective, and 43 Ca– 42 Ca can also be used to study isotopic Bose–Fermi mixtures. We also predict a d-wave shape resonance for collisions of fermionic 43 Ca atoms in different spin components.

Calculation of scattering parameters for ultracold 6 Li— 7 Li elastic collisions

Jicai Zhang, Jinfeng Sun, Yufang Liu

This paper theoretically studies the elastic scattering properties in a mixture of 6Li and 7Li atoms at cold and ultracold temperatures. Based on the constructed accurate interatomic potential of the triplet state for 6Li7Li mixture by the mass scaling method, it calculates the interspecies s-wave scattering lengths and the p-wave scattering lengths by the variable phase method and the semiclassical method, respectively. The scattering length is in good agreement with the experiment. The partial-wave and total cross sections are also calculated and a rich resonance structure is found.
