Abstract

Quantum Cryptography offers a secure method of sharing sequences of random numbers to be used as cryptographic keys. It can potentially eliminate many of the weaknesses of classical cryptographic methods. In this paper, we survey some results in quantum cryptography. After a brief introduction to classical cryptography, some fundamental quantum key distribution protocols are reviewed. The issue of security both from theoretical as well as real life point of view is also addressed. Finally we point out some noteworthy recent advances and some important remaining challenges.

A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF QUANTUM CRYPTOGRAPHY: PRINCIPLES, PROTOCOLS, AND PRACTICAL CHALLENGES

Pagalla Bhavani Shankar, Babu Reddy Mukkamalla, Mullangi David

The quantum cryptography approach is a significant change in secure communication in the sense that quantum cryptography bases its security on the law of quantum physics as opposed to computation difficulty. With classical encryption methods rapidly losing their resistance to the power of the underlying computers as well as the expected possibilities of the quantum computers, quantum cryptography comes into the limelight as a possible method of securing information in the long term. The paper is a detailed and systematic review of quantum cryptography along with the fundamentals of this practice, the way it works, and its practical implementation. It describes the ability of quantum phenomena to be unique (including superposition, uncertainty, and disturbance of measurement) and able to secure a key exchange as well as ensure any attempt of eavesdropping would be automatically noticed. In the review, the authors mainly discuss quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols, their functioning principles, security assurances, and the benefits of quantum over classical key exchange schemes. Besides that, the paper critically evaluates the real issues surrounding the implementation of quantum cryptographic systems such as hardware limitations, transmission range, environmental noise, and compatibility, to existing compatibility infrastructures. Recent advances in the field of experiments and pilot implementations are presented to determine the maturity of new technologies, and their suitability to be used on a large scale. Through its analytical review of theoretical assets, as well as practical constraints, this paper offers a definite and equalist view of the state of quantum cryptography today and also explains the research priorities important in its scale, moving away of the test production systems to the dependable and extensive security measures.

In an era when cyberattacks are becoming more frequent, quantum cryptography, a cutting-edge field at the convergence of quantum mechanics and cryptography, offers impenetrable communication security. This chapter explores the fundamentals of quantum cryptography, elaborating its principles, protocols, and potential applications. Beginning with an overview of quantum mechanics essentials, the chapter delves into the unique properties of quantum systems that underpin quantum cryptography, such as superposition and entanglement. It then discusses key quantum cryptographic protocols, including quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols such as BB84 and E91, highlighting their robustness against eavesdropping attacks. Furthermore, the chapter examines recent advancements in quantum cryptography and its practical implementations. Finally, it explores the challenges and future prospects of quantum cryptography, including scalability issues and integration with classical cryptographic systems. Overall, this chapter serves as a comprehensive introduction to the fascinating realm of quantum cryptography, offering insights into its theoretical foundations and practical implications for secure communication in the quantum age.

Quantum Cryptography: A Novel Approach to Secure Communications

Dr. Emily Chen

Quantum cryptography represents a revolutionary paradigm shift in secure communication by leveraging the principles of quantum mechanics to guarantee unbreakable encryption. Unlike classical cryptographic methods dependent on computational hardness, quantum cryptography exploits quantum phenomena such as superposition and entanglement to provide provable security against eavesdropping. This paper explores fundamental quantum cryptographic protocols, their operational principles, and recent advances that enable practical deployment. We further discuss challenges, implementation issues, and the future scope of quantum key distribution (QKD) technologies in securing global communication infrastructures

We survey some results in quantum cryptography. After a brief introduction to classical cryptography, we provide the quantum-mechanical background needed to present some fundamental protocols from quantum cryptography. In particular, we review quantum key distribution via the BB84 protocol and its security proof, as well as the related quantum bit commitment protocol and its proof of insecurity.

A study on the development of quantum cryptography and some challenging issues

Malinka Ivanova, Emanuil Ilchov

Quantum cryptography is a revolutionary field that applies the principles of quantum mechanics to provide secure communication channels. One of the most popular techniques in quantum cryptography is Quantum Key Distribution, which uses quantum states to deliver secure keys. The main advantage of quantum cryptography is that it offers protection against eavesdropping and tampering, which is not possible with classical encryption methods. This is because copying data in a quantum state is virtually impossible, and any attempt to intercept or manipulate the data will result in its complete alteration. As a result, any third-party interference can be detected quickly. Traditional cryptographic algorithms used in modern cryptography are vulnerable to attacks due to the evolution of quantum computers and mathematical advances in the decomposition of large integers. Therefore, the solution to address this vulnerability is to apply the principles of quantum physics to cryptography. The aim of the paper is to survey the current scientific achievements in the field of quantum cryptography and to present some challenging issues.

Quantum Cryptography: A Brief Review of the Recent Developments and Future Perspectives

Azeem Iqbal, Muhammad Junaid Aslam, Sahar Hafiza Nayab

Quantum Cryptography is a novel approach to make the information and network world more secure. Unlike classical cryptography, quantum cryptography ensures the security of communication because it is based on the laws of Quantum Mechanics; a branch of physics that deals with the fundamental behavior of matter and their energies to the levels of subatomic particles. These particles and their intrinsic properties such as photon polarization and entanglement allow us to develop an unbreakable system of cryptographic information. Conventionally, the security has been primarily concerned with the secured distribution of secret key carried over an insecure channel. However, in Quantum Cryptographic systems the transmission of secret key is done using aforementioned laws of nature through a secured quantum channel highly susceptible to intrusion detection. Consequently, the Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), in conjunction with protocols such as BB84 protocol has emerged as an ultimate modern secured communication system. This article concentrates on briefly reviewing quantum cryptography, some recent developments and reports of its vulnerabilities.
