Control of soliton interaction in a coherently excited three-level system embedded in a nonlinear waveguide

E. J. S. Fonseca, Solange Bessa Cavalcanti, J. Miguel Hickmann

We have investigated the interaction between a pair of solitons that originate from the breakup of a high-order soliton propagating through a cylindrical waveguide in the presence of three-level resonance associated with a dopant. We found that one can control the nature of this interaction by varying the initial intensity ratio and the overlap between the pump and the signal from which the pair originated.

We report on the coherent propagation of optical solitons through a three level atomic system embedded in a nonlinear dispersive waveguide showing that the soliton frequency chirp can be suppressed during the frequency conversion process.

Cloning solitons in a nonlinear medium coherently driven

D. P. Caetano, J. Miguel Hickmann

Based on the coexistence of a self-induced soliton with a nonlinear Schrodinger soliton we demonstrate soliton cloning in a three-level system interacting with two resonant fields in a nonlinear waveguide. With this new technique is possible to make copies of a soliton from one wavelength to another wavelength.
