Superluminal light propagation in optical amplifiers based on diode-pumped Nd:YVO 4 crystal

Andrey P. Zinoviev, R. A. Panov, Anton Novikov +1 more

The group velocity of an optical pulse in an optical amplifier in the presence of population oscillations was studied both theoretically and experimentally. The superluminal propagation of harmonically modulated light was measured in a diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 crystal. The resonant phase shift was found to have resonance at the frequency of population relaxation.

Superluminal and slow light propagation in cold atoms

Hoonsoo Kang, Gessler Hernandez, Yifu Zhu

The group velocity of a light pulse propagating through a four-level system exhibiting electromagnetically induced transparency can be manipulated by a pump laser. The pump laser induces the large optical nonlinearities with steep normal or anomalous dispersion. We present experimental measurements that demonstrate both slow and superluminal light propagation in cold Rb atoms.
