Generalized Coherent States for the Spherical

Abstract

The associated Legendre functions P (m) l (x) for a given l−m, may be taken into account as the increasing infinite sequences with respect to both indices l and m. This allows us to construct the exponential generating functions for them in two different methods by using Rodrigues formula. As an application then we present a scheme to construct generalized coherent states corresponding to the spherical harmonics Y m m (,).

On generalized Bell numbers and normal ordering problem

A. Ouahhabi, E. H. Tahri

In this paper, the general framework to construct generalized coherent states for the generalized Heisenberg algebra, using a [Formula: see text]-analog of exponential function and [Formula: see text]-integers, is discussed. Based on these notions, generalized Bell polynomials and Bell numbers, and so their exponential generating functions as well as a [Formula: see text]-analog of the latter and generalized Dobiński formulas are obtained. Then, the normal ordered form of exponential function of generalized number operator and its [Formula: see text]-analog exponential are investigated for general characteristic functions. In particular, the Arik–Coon [Formula: see text]-deformed quantum harmonic oscillator and the undeformed quantum physical system of infinite square well potential cases are well studied.

A class of vector coherent states defined over matrix domains

Kengatharam Thirulogasanthar, S. Twareque Ali

A general scheme is proposed for constructing vector coherent states, in analogy with the well-known canonical coherent states, and their deformed versions, when these latter are expressed as infinite series in powers of a complex variable z. In the present scheme, the variable z is replaced by matrix valued functions over appropriate domains. As particular examples, we analyze the quaternionic extensions of the canonical coherent states and the Gilmore–Perelomov and Barut–Girardello coherent states arising from representations of SU(1,1). Possible physical applications are indicated.

Coherent States for Generalized Laguerre Functions

Jellal, A

We explicitly construct a Hamiltonian whose exact eigenfunctions are the generalized Laguerre functions. Moreover, we present the related raising and lowering operators. We investigate the corresponding coherent states by adopting three different methods which are due to $(i)$ Barut-Girardello, $(ii)$ Gazeau-Klauder and $(iii)$ Perelomov associated to Lie algebra $su(1,1)$. Resolution of unity and overlapping properties are examined in each method.

New generalized coherent states

K. A. Penson, A. I. Solomon

We construct a new family of boson coherent states using a specially designed function which is a solution of a functional equation dε(q,x)/dx=ε(q,qx) with 0⩽q⩽1 and ε(q,0)=1. We use this function in place of the usual exponential to generate new coherent states |q,z〉 from the vacuum, which are normalized and continuous in their label z. These states allow the resolution of unity, and a corresponding weight function is furnished by the exact solution of the associated Stieltjes moment problem. They also permit exact evaluation of matrix elements of an arbitrary polynomial given as a normally-ordered function of boson operators. We exemplify this by showing that the photon number statistics for these states is sub-Poissonian. For any q<1 the states |q,z〉 are squeezed; we obtain and discuss their signal to quantum noise ratio. The function ε(q,x) allows a natural generation of multiboson coherent states of arbitrary multiplicity, which is impossible for the usual coherent states. For q=1 all the above results reduce to those for conventional coherent states. Finally, we establish a link with q-deformed bosons.

Explicit Expression for Spherical Harmonics

L. A. Schmid

A general expression for spherical harmonics as an explicit function of the angle coordinates is derived using standard methods of group-representation theory. This expression is more useful to physicists than a corresponding expression available in the mathematical literature for two reasons: (1) Its normalization is the one most commonly used by physicists, rather than one of several other normalization conventions used mainly by mathematicians. (2) Its form is especially convenient for use in the operator equations which occur in quantum mechanics. Furthermore, the derivation serves the pedagogical purpose of providing a simple illustration of the methods of group-representation theory. A set of relations useful in solving the Dirac equation are listed, both because their verification provides an example of the utility of the expression derived, and because the form in which these relations are stated in the literature is apt to result in confusion stemming from the various different normalization conventions in use.
