Design of non binary LDPC codes using their binary image: algebraic properties

Abstract

In this paper, we develop algebraic properties of regular (2, tr, N) non binary LDPC codes designed using their binary image. First, we characterize the algebraic properties of optimized rows of the parity check matrix H associated with a code, and then we study the algebraic properties of cycles and stopping sets associated with the underlaying Tanner graph

Abstract — In this paper, a method to design regular (2, dc)-LDPC codes over GF(q) with both good waterfall and error floor properties is presented, based on the algebraic properties of their binary image. First, the algebraic properties of rows of the parity check matrix H associated with a code are characterized and optimized to improve the waterfall. Then the algebraic properties of cycles and stopping sets associated with the underlying Tanner graph are studied and linked to the global binary minimum distance of the code. Finally, simulations are presented to illustrate the excellent performance of the designed codes. Index Terms — channel coding, error correction coding, nonbinary LDPC codes, iterative decoding, binary image. I.

Using binary images of non binary LDPC codes to improve overall performance

Charly Poulliat, M.P.C. Fossorier, David Declercq

In this paper, we address the problem of the optimization of non binary LDPC codes for finite lengths. Using the binary image of the code, we provide a method for both waterfall and error floor improvements based on the algebraic properties of rows, cycles and stopping sets.

Trapping sets of structured LDPC codes

Qin Huang, Qiuju Diao, Shu Lin +1 more

THIS PAPER IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE STUDENT PAPER AWARD. This paper analyzes trapping set structure of binary regular LDPC codes whose parity-check matrices satisfy the constraint that no two rows (or two columns) have more than one place where they both have non-zero components, which is called row-column (RC) constraint. For a (γ,ρ)-regular LDPC code whose parity-check matrix satisfies the RC-constraint, its Tanner graph contains no (κ, τ) trapping set with size κ ≤ γ and number τ of odd degree check nodes less than γ. For several classes of RC-constrained regular LDPC codes constructed algebraically, we show that their Tanner graphs contain no trapping sets of sizes smaller than their minimum weights.

A new method of detecting cycles in Tanner graph of LDPC codes

Bo Li, Gang Wang, Hongjuan Yang

To improve the performance of LDPC codes, we should detect and eliminate cycles in Tanner graph of the parity-check matrix when we make LDPC codes. We improved a logic algebraic algorithm in computing entire routes between the nodes of a communication network, and found a new method of detecting cycles in Tanner graph of LDPC codes. This method applied the logic algebraic calculation rules. First transformed the parity-check matrix and then constructed the relative matrix of the Tanner graph. Through integrating and deleting rows of relative matrix and correcting some elements, this new algorithm can detect all the cycles in a Tanner graph of LDPC codes which code length is n and information bits number is k, just needing integrating and deleting n-1 times and correcting k times. The calculation steps of the algorithm is shown detailed by an (8, 4, 2) LDPC example and its correctness have been validated.

Construction of Cycle-free LDPC Codes

Fengfan Yang

The linear block code is called a binary Low-Density Parity-Check code if whose parity-check matrix is a sparse matrix. For the features of parity-check matrix, a LDPC code can be illustrated by a Tanner graph. Cycles, especially short cycles in the Tanner graph, lead to inefficient decoding and prevent the decoding algorithm from converging to the optimal decoding result. In this paper, a simple algorithm of constructing four-cycle-free regular A(n,d_v,d_c)LDPC codes, d_v3, is introduced. And we analyse the relationship between the performance and the cycle.
