Quantum fidelity of Gaussian states in open systems

Abstract

Using the expression of the fidelity for the most general Gaussian quantum states, the behaviour of the quantum fidelity is described for the states of a harmonic oscillator interacting with an environment, in particular with a thermal bath. By taking a correlated squeezed Gaussian state as initial state, we calculate the quantum fidelity for both kinds of undisplaced and displaced states, and for different values of the squeezing and correlation parameters and of the environment temperature.

Quantum correlations in Gaussian open systems

Аурелиан Исар

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of the quantum correlations of a system consisting of two non-interacting modes embedded in a thermal environment. We describe the evolution of the quantum entanglement in terms of the covariance matrix for Gaussian input states. For all values of the temperature of the thermal reservoir, an initial separable squeezed thermal state remains separable for all times. In the case of an entangled initial squeezed thermal state, entanglement suppression (entanglement sudden death) takes place, for non-zero temperatures of the environment. The Gaussian quantum discord, which is a measure of all quantum correlations in the state, including entanglement, decays asymptotically in time under the effect of the thermal bath.

A comprehensive perspective for single-mode Gaussian coherence

S. K. Singh, Atta Ur Rahman, Mojtaba Mazaheri +1 more

Abstract In this work, we theoretically investigate single-mode Gaussian quantum coherence from a comprehensive perspective. Based on analytical expressions of the first and second moments of single-mode Gaussian states undergoing various Gaussian noisy channels, we use quantum mater equation and the method of the relative entropy to quantify the quantum coherence of any single-mode Gaussian state. We demonstrate that the displaced thermal state achieves maximum quantum coherence when using only the displaced vacuum state, which is a pure coherent state. However, for various lossy noise channels, quantum coherence shows a significant decrease. In the context of a squeezed thermal state, when controlling the squeezing parameter for a given environmental temperature, quantum coherence has been witnessed to increase. The ultimate upper bound of quantum coherence is then attained with the squeezed vacuum state. In particular, we determined the most generalized scenario of the displaced squeezed thermal state. The maximum value of quantum coherence is obtained when displacement and squeeze parameters both attain maximum value. Our study might be important in the future for the characterisation as well as the estimation of various nonclassical quantum correlations in single-mode Gaussian states.

Quantum fidelity evolution of Penning trap coherent states in an asymmetric open quantum system

Somayeh Mehrabankar, Davood Afshar, Mojtaba Jafarpour

Assuming the Born-Markov approximation, we study the evolution of quantum fidelity in asymmetric systems consisting of two and three-mode independent oscillators interacting with a thermal bath. To this end, considering the Penning trap coherent states as the initial states of the system, we have studied the evolution of the quantum fidelity as a function of the parameters of the system, the environment and the initial state, in the framework of open systems theory. It is observed that fidelity is a decreasing function of the temperature and dissipation coefficient for both two and three-mode states. However, for the two-mode state, the fidelity is an oscillating function of time but a decreasing one in the low values of the magnetic field. In the case of a three-mode state, although the fidelity decreases with the magnetic field, dissipation coefficient and temperature, it is an irregular function of the asymmetric coefficient.

Fidelity of Fock-state-encoded qubits subjected to continuous-variable Gaussian processes

Brian Julsgaard, Klaus Mølmer

When a harmonic oscillator is under the influence of a Gaussian process such as linear damping, parametric gain, and linear coupling to a thermal environment, its coherent states are transformed into states with Gaussian Wigner function. Qubit states can be encoded in the $|0\ensuremath{\rangle}$ and $|1\ensuremath{\rangle}$ Fock states of a quantum harmonic oscillator, and it is relevant to know the fidelity of the output qubit state after a Gaussian process on the oscillator. In this paper we present a general expression for the average qubit fidelity in terms of the first and second moments of the output from input coherent states subjected to Gaussian processes.

Entanglement evolution of a two-mode Gaussian system in various thermal environments

Tatiana Mihaescu, Аурелиан Исар

We describe the evolution of the quantum entanglement of an open system consisting of two bosonic modes interacting with a common thermal environment, described by two different models. The initial state of the system is taken of Gaussian form. In the case of a thermal bath, characterized by temperature and dissipation constant which correspond to an asymptotic Gibbs state of the system, we show that for a zero temperature of the thermal bath an initial entangled Gaussian state remains entangled for all finite times. For an entangled initial squeezed thermal state, the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death takes place and we calculate the survival time of entanglement. For the second model of the environment, corresponding to a non-Gibbs asymptotic state, we study the possibility of generating entanglement. We show that the generation of the entanglement between two uncoupled bosonic modes is possible only for definite values of the temperature and dissipation constant, which characterize the thermal environment.
