Abstract

A path integral formulation to study the properties of bipolaron is presented. The formulation is subsequently used to derive an upper bound for the ground state energy of the bipolaron. The estimate is used to discuss the stability of bipolaron.

Upper bound to the polaron ground state in a magnetic field using the Feynman path-integral method

David M. Larsen

It is shown that for sufficiently strong magnetic fields the Feynman path-integral method can give a ground-state energy lying below the exact ground-state energy of the two-dimensional polaron.Received 13 June 1985DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevB.32.2657©1985 American Physical Society

Effect of Parabolic Potential on Bipolaron

RUANYong-Hong, CHENQing-Hu, JIAOZheng-Kuan

We apply a Feynman path-integral variational approach combining with the average for the relative motion to study the stability of bipolaron in a quantum dot. The binding energy is calculated in different parameters. We find that an optimum quantum potential favors the formation of bipolaron. Compared with other methods in literature, the present pproach is better than Laudau-Pekar one in all coupling regime and full path-integral one in the strong coupling regime.

Formation of Large Bipolarons

Qing‐Hu Chen, Ren Yu-hang, Zhengkuan Jiao +1 more

A variational approach is presented to calculate the ground-state energy of large bipolarons in two and three dimensions. The values of the critical coupling constant α c above which the bipolaron is stable and the critical ratio of dielectric constants η c below which the bipolaron is stable are approximately evaluated. It is found that the stability region of bipolarons in the (1/α, η)-plane becomes larger with decreasing dimensionality.

Comments on “Translation-invariant bipolarons and the problem of high-temperature superconductivity”

We comment on the recent results of Refs. [1], [2] on the bipolaron problem derived using an approximation of Gross–Tulub. It is proved that, contrary to the claim made in Refs. [1], [2], the bipolaron ground-state energy calculated there in the strong-coupling approximation has not been shown to constitute a variational upper bound.
