Abstract

This paper presents a generalized quantum particle model to greatly quicken and improve data clustering. The proposed model uses the random dynamics and quantum entanglement of quantum particles on a particle array. In comparison with classical nonquantum methods, the quantum particle model not only clusters much faster, but also has better clustering quality for multi-shape multi-distribution high-dimensional large-scale data sets with noise. The simulations and comparisons show the effectiveness of the quantum particle model

Quantum Hierarchical Clustering Algorithm Based on the Nearest Cluster Centroids Distance

Fengbo Kong, Hong Lai, Hailing Xiong

It is getting harder to deal with the large data sets by the classical hierarchical clustering algorithm, so we propose an efficient quantum hierarchical clustering algorithm, in which the quantum bit (qubit) is used to represent the data point in the space. For quantum entanglement, the distance between two data points is calculated through adding an auxiliary particle to construct the entangled state. Then a projective measurement is performed on the auxiliary particle alone. The distance between two points is acquired by the projective measurement. We use the distance of the cluster centroids as a measure of similarity between clusters. Also, based on the principle of the minimum cluster centroids distance, the nearest two clusters are merged. We aim at improving time and space complexity and effect of the clustering of the hierarchical clustering algorithm.

A Novel Clustering Algorithm Based on Quantum Random Walk

Qiang Li, Yan Li He, Jiang Jing-ping

The enormous successes have been made by quantum algorithms during the last decade. In this paper, we combine the quantum random walk (QRW) with the problem of data clustering, and develop two clustering algorithms based on the one dimensional QRW. Then, the probability distributions on the positions induced by QRW in these algorithms are investigated, which also indicates the possibility of obtaining better results. Consequently, the experimental results have demonstrated that data points in datasets are clustered reasonably and efficiently, and the clustering algorithms are of fast rates of convergence. Moreover, the comparison with other algorithms also provides an indication of the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Nida Afreen Rizvi, Shadab Pasha Khan

The article introduces Q-ClusterSim, a resource-efficient hybrid quantum-classical framework designed to accelerate clustering operations on large-scale and high-dimensional datasets. The proposed model combines quantum-enhanced k-means and density-based clustering within a unified quantum simulation environment to achieve improved computational efficiency and scalability. By leveraging the parallelism of quantum circuits and the adaptability of classical optimization, Q-ClusterSim significantly reduces execution time while maintaining clustering accuracy. Simulations are conducted using IBM Qiskit and TensorFlow Quantum on benchmark datasets, where the proposed model consistently outperforms classical clustering algorithms in terms of convergence speed, precision, and resource consumption. Results validate the model’s effectiveness in managing complex data structures under limited qubit resources, making it suitable for real-world large data applications. Comparative study of data preparation methods in quantum clustering algorithms

Oumayma Ouedrhiri, Oumayma Banouar, Said Raghay +1 more

More powerful and better performing, quantum algorithms offer a noticeable speedup in comparison with classical algorithms. This is due to the superposition property of quantum information. It helps to obtain algorithms that are better in terms of speed and performance. Machine learning benefits from quantum computing advantages to help time consuming algorithms run faster in the best conditions (without having to lose information). In the clustering algorithms case, the distance calculation between data points is the most resource consuming step. Thus, the use of a quantum distance is very helpful. In this paper, we test a number of quantum clustering algorithms with different data preparation methods. Experiments were done for different datasets (Iris, Wine, Breast cancer) and the comparison is based on the Clustering quality and the accuracy score.

Quantum-Inspired Clustering Algorithms for High-Dimensional Data

Jincheng Zhang

High-dimensional data presents significant challenges to traditional clustering algorithms due to the "curse of dimensionality," leading to sparsity issues, increased computational complexity, and reduced cluster quality. This research investigates the application of quantum-inspired algorithms to enhance clustering performance in these scenarios. We propose a novel clustering framework leveraging concepts from quantum annealing and quantum walks to efficiently explore the feature space and identify clusters. The core idea is to mimic the probabilistic and superposition properties of quantum systems within the clustering process, allowing for more nuanced exploration of potential cluster configurations. The algorithms are designed to mitigate the effects of dimensionality by introducing stochastic search strategies and exploiting correlations between features. We evaluate the effectiveness of these algorithms on benchmark datasets, demonstrating improved clustering accuracy and reduced computational cost compared to established classical methods. The research highlights the potential of quantum-inspired approaches as a viable solution for high-dimensional clustering problems.
