Abstract

Abstract In a laterally coupled double quantum dot (DQD), we can refer to the tunnel‐coupled symmetric (antisymmetric) state as the pseudo‐spin up (down) state. We study the coherent pseudo‐spin dynamics in a laterally coupled DQD. We propose the blockade phenomena induced by quantum interference effect through the pseudo‐spin states. Under such a blockade condition, we calculate the leakage current due to the coherent pseudospin dynamics driven by time‐varying microwave (MW) fields. When the resonant condition is satisfied, the current has a peak (right figure). Moreover, we examine the effect of the photon‐assisted‐tunneling (PAT) on pseudospin dynamics. We show that the PAT does not significantly influence the leakage current under above blockade condition. The frequency and the inter‐dot tunnel coupling dependence of the leakage current. Dynamical model for coherent optical manipulation of a single spin state in a charged quantum dot

Gabriela M. Slavcheva

Abstract The optically‐induced coherent spin dynamics of a single spin confined in a charged quantum dot (QD) is theoretically studied employing coupled vector Maxwell‐pseudospin formalism. Generalized pseudospin master equation is derived for description of the time evolution of spin coherences and spin populations including spin population transfer and dissipation in the system through spin relaxation processes. The equation is solved in the time domain self‐consistently with the vector Maxwell equations for the optical wave propagation coupled to it via macroscopic medium polarisation. Using the model the long‐lived electron spin coherence left behind a single resonant ultrashort optical excitation of the electron‐trion transition in a charged QD is simulated in the low‐ and high‐intensity Rabi oscillations regime. Signatures of the polarised photoluminescence (PL), predicted by the model, such as the appearance of a second echo pulse after the excitation and characteristic PL trace shape, are discussed for realization of high‐fidelity schemes for coherent readout of a single spin polarisation state. Interplay of Pauli blockade with electron-photon coupling in quantum dots

Florian Ginzel, Guido Burkard

Both quantum transport measurements in the Pauli blockade regime and microwave cavity transmission measurements are important tools for spin-qubit readout and characterization. Based on a generalized input-output theory we derive a theoretical framework to investigate how a double quantum dot (DQD) in a transport setup interacts with a coupled microwave resonator while the current through the DQD is rectified by Pauli blockade. We show that the output field of the resonator can be used to infer the leakage current and thus obtain insight into the blockade mechanisms. In the case of a silicon DQD, we show how the valley quasidegeneracy can impose limitations on this scheme. We also demonstrate that a large number of unknown DQD parameters including (but not limited to) the valley splitting can be estimated from the resonator response simultaneous to a transport experiment, providing more detailed knowledge about the microscopic environment of the DQD. Furthermore, we describe and quantify a back action of the resonator photons on the steady-state leakage current.

Second‐order correlation function of entangled photons from a quantum dot in microcavity

Hiroshi Ajiki, Hajime Ishihara

Abstract We theoretically study cross‐polarized entangled photon generation from a single quantum dot in microcavity. Generation of co‐polarized non‐entangled photons is suppressed in the strong‐coupling limit due to the photon blockade effect. Normalized second‐order correlation function shows quantum beat resulting from interference between two kinds of entangled photons. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Transport through coupled quantum dots

Tobias Brandes

Abstract A brief survey of theoretical activities on electronic transport in coupled charge qubits is given. Some subtleties of the double quantum dot model (infinite bias, infinitely strong Coulomb blockade) are pointed out, and the motivation behind using ac‐field, noise and entanglement as a probe for testing transport in a simple setting is discussed. Pauli blockade transport in the cotunneling regime through a double quantum dot

Hongwu Liu, T. Fujisawa, T. Hayashi +1 more

Abstract Pauli spin blockade in the cotunneling transport through an effective two‐electron double quantum dot (™10 electrons in each dot) has been presented. In the cotunneling regime where the two‐electron (1,1) and (0,2) states (ordered pairs denote the effective electron numbers in each dot) are far below the Fermi energy of the leads, we can concentrate on the two‐electron tunnelling transitions and detect singlet‐triplet splitting arising from the exchange interaction between the two electron spins with improved resolution. We discuss the cotunneling transport by considering the coherent and incoherent coupling between the dots in connection with the singlet‐triplet splitting. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Conditional photon-assisted transport in coupled quantum dot

Yan Xie, Weidong Xie, Suqing Duan +5 more

We theoretically study the photon-assisted transport (PAT) in a double quantum dot (QD) which is conditionally controlled by the optical excitation in an adjacent QD. Based on a real three-QD model, a double-electron level configuration needed for the conditional PAT is designed. Interesting conditional dynamics are demonstrated for the double QD and its adjacent QD. Depending on various conditional frequencies, the conditional behaviors can be manifested as the current peaks or collapses of the PAT. They correspond to coherent excitations or trapping of double-electron states. Our results present a possible way to optically manipulate electron states and monitor them via the signals of current spectrum.
