Abstract

In this paper, we present optical asymmetric cryptography combined with a three-dimensional (3D) space-based model. An optical multiple-random-phase-mask encoding system is developed in the Fresnel domain, and one random phase-only mask and the plaintext are combined as a series of particles. Subsequently, the series of particles is translated along an axial direction, and is distributed in a 3D space. During image decryption, the robustness and security of the proposed method are further analyzed. Numerical simulation results are presented to show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed optical image encryption method.

Optical image encryption based on phase retrieval combined with three-dimensional particle-like distribution

Wen Chen, Xudong Chen, Colin J. R. Sheppard

We propose a new phase retrieval algorithm for optical image encryption in three-dimensional (3D) space. The two-dimensional (2D) plaintext is considered as a series of particles distributed in 3D space, and an iterative phase retrieval algorithm is developed to encrypt the series of particles into phase-only masks. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are demonstrated by a numerical experiment, and the advantages and security of the proposed optical cryptosystems are also analyzed and discussed.

Interference-based optical image encryption using three-dimensional phase retrieval

Wen Chen, Xudong Chen

In recent years, optical image encryption has attracted more and more attention in information security due to its unique advantages, such as parallel processing and multiple-parameter characteristics. In this paper, we propose a new method using three-dimensional (3D) processing strategy for interference-based optical image encryption. The plaintext is considered as a series of particles distributed in 3D space, and any one sectional extraction cannot render information about the plaintext during image decryption. In addition, the silhouette problem in the conventional interference-based optical encryption method is effectively suppressed, and the proposed optical cryptosystem can achieve higher security compared with the previous work. A numerical experiment is conducted to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Three-dimensional information encryption with optical asymmetric cryptography and digital interferometry

Yuhua Yang, Changming Fu, Tuo Li +4 more

An encoding algorithm is proposed for three-dimensional (3-D) information using optical asymmetric cryptosystem and the digital interferometry. 3-D information can be treated as an ensemble composed of multiple points, and every point spreads in a spatial limited field. Due to the free space coordinates, the encryption system of 3-D information can be regarded as an optical asymmetric cryptosystem. We encrypt 3-D information with the double random phase-truncated encoding, and then record the amplitude of ciphertext by digital interferometry. Computer simulations demonstrate the feasibility and effective of the proposed method. This cryptosystem is also numerically tested with the incorrect keys, the addition noise to the ciphertext, and spatial information occluded ciphertext. The proposed algorithm has three advantages: the high efficiency of encryption, the safety provided by one added dimension, the increasing information quantity and the optical asymmetric cryptosystems. The high robustness to the system is also achieved.

Optical image encryption in Fresnel domain using spiral phase transform

Ravi Kumar, Basanta Bhaduri

Abstract In this study, we propose a new nonlinear optical image encryption technique using spiral phase transform (SPT). First, the primary image is phase encoded and multiplied with a random amplitude mask (RAM), and using power function, the product is then powered to m . This powered output is Fresnel propagated with distance z 1 and then modulated with a random phase mask (RPM). The modulated image is further Fresnel propagated with distance z 2 . Similarly, a security image is also modulated with another RAM and then Fresnel propagated with distance z 3 . Next, the two modulated images after Fresnel propagations, are interfered and further Fresnel propagated with distance z 4 to get a complex image. Finally, this complex image is SPT with particular spiral phase function (SPF), to get the final encrypted image for transmission. In the proposed technique, the security keys are Fresnel propagation distances, the security image, RPM, RAMs, power order, m , and order of SPF, q . Numerical simulation results confirm the validity and effectiveness of the proposed technique. The proposed technique is robust against noise and brutal force attacks.

An optical image encryption method based on Fourier single-pixel imaging and phase retrieval algorithm

Tianyu ZENG, Liansheng Sui, Cong Du +2 more

An optical image encryption method is proposed based on Fourier single-pixel imaging and iterated phase retrieval algorithm. First, a binary barcode image containing two groups of horizontal strips is randomly generated and used as the target image in the single-pixel imaging process. Second, considering the barcode image as the amplitude constraint, the original plaintext image is encoded to two phase-only masks using a designed phase retrieval algorithm in Fresnel domain, and these masks are applied as secret keys. Finally, the barcode image is encrypted to a series of measurements using two-step phase shift Fourier single-pixel imaging as the ciphertext. Differing other methods, the original image is not directly imaged and encoded into the ciphertext. Even the ciphertext is obtained by a cracker, only the barcode image may be further discovered. Due to two phase-only masks as secret keys, the security level of the cryptosystem can be enhanced greatly. The simulated results verify the feasibility of the proposed method, and this work provides an effective alternative for the related research.

Asymmetric Optical Image Encryption With Silhouette Removal Using Interference and Equal Modulus Decomposition

Guangyu Luan, Aichuan Li, Zhengguang Chen +1 more

We propose an asymmetric optical image encryption scheme with silhouette removal by using interference and equal modulus decomposition (EMD). Plaintext is first separated into two complex value masks with the same modulus using EMD in the Fresnel transform domain. The two masks are encoded into four phase-only masks (POMs), two of which are treated as ciphertexts and other two as plaintext-dependent private keys by using the inverse Fresnel transform with different diffraction distances and interference-based encryption. Any information about the plaintext, including its silhouette, cannot be retrieved using one, two, or even three of the four POMs. Our scheme also avoids the constraint of the same modulus in EMD and eliminates the vulnerability against the iterative amplitude-phase attack and advanced iterative amplitude-phase attack. Numerical simulations were used to verify the validity and security of our proposed method.
