Optical gain in halogen atom recombination reactions

I. A. Izmaǐlov, V. A. Kochelap

The radiative channel of halogen atom recombination reactions is discussed using experimental data. It is found that various types of population of excited electronic states are formed during recombination. Calculations are made of the optical amplification cross sections for various transitions. It is found that for recombining atom concentrations of (1–5)×1018cm−3 at temperatures not exceeding 600–800°K, an optical gain of the order of 10−3cm−1 may be achieved in the near infrared.

Polarization Correlations between Single Photons Emitted by Quantum Dots in Planar Microcavities

Nika Akopian

We measured the second order correlation function between single photons emitted from optically excited single self‐assembled quantum dots embedded in planar microcavities. We clearly distinguish between radiative recombination processes in the presence of a charge in the dot to recombination in its absence. We observed strong correlations of the linear polarization states of photons emitted by the recombining neutral biexcitons and the polarization states of consecutive recombining neutral excitons.

Quantum-optical radiative recombination between electrons and ions analyzed with a semiclassical picture

Je Hoi Mun, Sung-Ho Jang, Sang Ki Nam

In this work, quantum-optical radiative recombinations between electrons and ions are analyzed using a semiclassical approach without losing their specific quantum-optical nature. Under moderately strong driving field conditions, the results of the quantum-optical model are consistent with the semiclassically derived results in terms of both the spectral intensity and phase. Deviations between the two models, which are observed under extremely strong driving field conditions, are investigated in the time and frequency domains to clarify the underlying reasons. In addition, the radiative recombination dynamics between a free electron and a bare ion can be simulated using our quantum model. In recent decades, the semiclassical model combined with the classical equations of light has been used as an intuitive and powerful tool to study the macroscopic buildup of nonlinearly generated light. In this macroscopic approach, the phase information of individual atomic radiations plays an essential role. Since our model can provide spectral phases of quantum-optical lights generated from individual atoms, it is now feasible to pursue the macroscopic buildup of specific quantum-optical radiations and relevant phenomena by using the conventional approach used for the semiclassical model.
