VECTOR COHERENT STATES AND NON-ABELIAN GAUGE STRUCTURES IN QUANTUM MECHANICS

Abstract

We set the general formalism for calculating Berry's phase in quantum systems with Hamiltonian belonging to the algebra of a semisimple Lie group of any rank in the framework of generalized coherent states. Within this approach the geometric properties of Berry's connection are also studied, both in the Abelian and non-Abelian cases. In particular we call attention to the non-Abelian case where we make use of a vectorial generalization of coherent states. In this respect a thorough and self-contained exposition of the formalism of vector coherent states is given. The specific examples of the groups SU(3) and Sp(2) are worked out in detail.

Phase space formulation of the Abelian and non-Abelian quantum geometric tensor

Diego González, Daniel Gutiérrez‐Ruiz, J. David Vergara

Abstract The geometry of the parameter space is encoded by the quantum geometric tensor, which captures fundamental information about quantum states and contains both the quantum metric tensor and the curvature of the Berry connection. We present a formulation of the Berry connection and the quantum geometric tensor in the framework of the phase space or Wigner function formalism. This formulation is obtained through the direct application of the Weyl correspondence to the geometric structure under consideration. In particular, we show that the quantum metric tensor can be computed using only the Wigner functions, which opens an alternative way to experimentally measure the components of this tensor. We also address the non-Abelian generalization and obtain the phase space formulation of the Wilczek–Zee connection and the non-Abelian quantum geometric tensor. In this case, the non-Abelian quantum metric tensor involves only the non-diagonal Wigner functions. Then, we verify our approach with examples and apply it to a system of N coupled harmonic oscillators, showing that the associated Berry connection vanishes and obtaining the analytic expression for the quantum metric tensor. Our results indicate that the developed approach is well adapted to study the parameter space associated with quantum many-body systems.

COHERENT STATES AND THEIR GENERALIZATIONS: A MATHEMATICAL OVERVIEW

S. Twareque Ali, Jean-Pierre Antoine, Jean‐Pierre Gazeau +1 more

We present a survey of the theory of coherent states (CS) and some of their generalizations, with emphasis on the mathematical structure, rather than on physical applications. Starting from the standard theory of CS over Lie groups, we develop a general formalism, in which CS are associated to group representations which are square integrable over a homogeneous space. A further step allows us to dispense with the group context altogether, and thus obtain the so-called reproducing triples and continuous frames introduced in some earlier work. We discuss in detail a number of concrete examples, namely semisimple Lie groups, the relativity groups and various types of wavelets. Finally we turn to some physical applications, centering on quantum measurement and the quantization/dequantization problem, that is, the transition from the classical to the quantum level and vice versa.

Berry phase in homogeneous Kähler manifolds with linear Hamiltonians

Luis J. Boya, Askold M. Perelomov, Mariano Santander

We study the total [dynamical plus geometrical (Berry)] phase of cyclic quantum motion for coherent states over homogeneous Kähler manifolds X=G/H, which can be considered as the phase spaces of classical systems and which are, in particular cases, coadjoint orbits of some Lie groups G. When the Hamiltonian is linear in the generators of a Lie group, both phases can be calculated exactly in terms of classical objects. In particular, the geometric phase is given by the symplectic area enclosed by the (purely classical) motion in the space of coherent states.

Berry phase for coherent states in spin systems

Khikmat Kh. Muminov, Yousef Yousefi

In this paper we obtain Berry phase from Schrödinger equation. For vector states, basic kets are coherent states in real parameterization. We calculate Berry phase for spin S=1/2 and spin S=1 in SU(2) group and Berry phase for spin S=1 in SU(3) group.

ON COHERENT STATES AND q-DEFORMED ALGEBRAS

DEMOSTHENES ELLINAS

We review some aspects of the relation between ordinary coherent states and q-deformed generalized coherent states with some of the simplest cases of quantum Lie algebras. In particular, new properties of (q-)coherent states are utilized to provide a path integral formalism allowing to study a modified form of q-classical mechanics, to probe some geometrical consequences of the q-deformation and finally to construct Bargmann complex analytic realizations for some quantum algebras.
