Local spin dynamics near quantum critical line of spin-
1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg XXZ chain with longitudinal magnetic field
Quantum spin dynamics of the axial antiferromagnetic spin-
21 XXZ chain in a longitudinal magnetic field
The infinite Heisenberg XXZ spin-
21 chain in the gapped antiferromagnetic regime has two degenerate vacua and kink topological excitations (which are also called spinons) interpolating between these vacua as elementary excitations. Application of an arbitrary weak staggered longitudinal magnetic field
h induces a long-range attractive potential between two adjacent spinons leading to their confinement into ``meson'' bound states. Exploiting the integrability of the XXZ model in the deconfined phase
h=0, we perform perturbative calculations of the energy spectra of the two-spinon bound states in the weak confinement regime at $h\ensuremath{\rightarrow}+0$, using the strength of the staggered magnetic field
h as a small parameter. Both transverse and longitudinal dynamical structure factors of the local spin operators are calculated as well in the two-spinon approximation in the weak confinement regime to the leading order in
h.
We study the interplay of electric and magnetic order in the one-dimensional Heisenberg spin-
21 XXZ chain with large Ising anisotropy in the presence of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction and with longitudinal and transverse magnetic fields, interpreting the DM interaction as a coupling between the local electric polarization and an external electric field. We obtain the ground state phase diagram using the density matrix renormalization group method and compute various ground state quantities like the magnetization, staggered magnetization, electric polarization and spin correlation functions, etc. In the presence of both longitudinal and transverse magnetic fields, there are three different phases corresponding to a gapped N\'eel phase with antiferromagnetic (AF) order, gapped saturated phase, and a critical incommensurate gapless phase. The external electric field modifies the phase boundaries but does not lead to any new phases. Both external magnetic fields and electric fields can be used to tune between the phases. We also show that the transverse magnetic field induces a vector chiral order in the N\'eel phase (even in the absence of an electric field) which can be interpreted as an electric polarization in a direction parallel to the AF order.
We report a high-resolution terahertz spectroscopic study of quantum spin dynamics in the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg-Ising spin-chain compound BaCo_{2}V_{2}O_{8} as a function of temperature and longitudinal magnetic field. Confined spinon excitations are observed in an antiferromagnetic phase below T_{N}≃5.5 K. In a field-induced gapless phase above B_{c}=3.8 T, we identify many-body string excitations as well as low-energy fractional psinon or antipsinon excitations by comparing to Bethe ansatz calculations. In the vicinity of B_{c}, the high-energy string excitations are found to have a dominant contribution to the spin dynamics as compared with the fractional excitations.
