Control of quantum pathways for the generation of continuous-wave Raman sidebands

Abstract

The generation of a multifrequency continuous-wave laser through stimulated Raman scattering and phase-matched four-wave mixing in a medium-filled optical cavity is demonstrated. Three different quantum pathways for the four-wave mixing, two of them degenerate and one of them nondegenerate, can be excited independently by tuning the intracavity dispersion. The results suggest that phase-matched Raman sidebands were generated on the longer wavelength side as well as on the shorter wavelength side, which can be used for the Fourier synthesis of a train of ultrashort optical pulses.

Generation of Continuous-Wave Raman Sidebands through Degenerate and Nondegenerate Intracavity Four-Wave Mixing

Shin-ichi Zaitsu, Totaro Imasaka

The phase-matched intracavity four-wave mixing is controlled by the total dispersion of the optical cavity. Continuous-wave Raman sidebands are generated through three different pathways depending on the phase-matching conditions.

We demonstrate highly efficient continuous-wave-based four-wave mixing beyond a small signal approximation. This is achieved in a high-finesse cavity with controlled dispersion for phase-matched interaction.

Quantum theory of phase correlations in optical frequency combs generated by stimulated Raman scattering

Chunbai Wu, M. G. Raymer, Yingying Wang +1 more

We explore theoretically the phase correlation between multiple generated sidebands in a Raman optical frequency comb under conditions of spontaneous initiation from quantum zero-point noise. We show that there is a near-deterministic correlation between sideband phases in each laser shot which may lead to synthesis of attosecond pulse trains.

Continuous-wave light modulation at molecular frequencies

Jonathan Tyler Green, Joshua J. Weber, Deniz D. Yavuz

By using continuous-wave (CW)--stimulated Raman scattering inside a high-finesse cavity, we generate three CW spectral components covering about one octave of optical bandwidth. We investigate the mutual coherence of these three beams by studying phase-dependent second harmonic generation. From the high contrast of the observed interference fringes, we infer very good phase coherence across the spectrum and thereby infer the synthesis of a near single-cycle optical wave form.

Subfemtosecond pulse generation by cascade-stimulated Raman scattering with modulated Raman excitation

Kun Wu, Jian Wu, Heping Zeng

Subfemtosecond (sub-fs) pulses can be generated by cascade-stimulated Raman scattering in a Raman medium with modulated Raman excitations, driven by two sufficiently intense laser beams, one of which is amplitude modulated. The nonadiabatic Raman interaction establishes a strong modulated Raman coherence, which supports compression of the generated broadband Raman sidebands to a train of sub-fs pulses regardless of whether the carrier frequencies of the driving lasers are tuned above, below or on two-photon Raman resonance.

Broadband coherent light generation in diamond driven by femtosecond pulses

Miaochan Zhi, Xi Wang, Alexei V. Sokolov

We demonstrate broadband light generation in diamond pumped by two-color femtosecond laser pulses. We find that phase matching plays a critical role in the output angle and frequency of the generated sidebands. When a third femtosecond probe pulse is applied to the crystal in the boxed Coherent anti-Stokes Raman Scattering geometry, a two-dimensional array of multi-color beams is generated through the Raman, four-wave mixing, and six-wave-mixing processes. We test the mutual coherence between the generated sidebands. Such coherence, maintained over the broad spectrum, opens possibilities for synthesis of subfemtosecond light waveforms.
