Scalar time parametrization of Klein--Gordon equation: the harmonic oscillator solution

Luis A. Anchordoqui, Ana Gabriela Grunfeld, M. C. Rocca

The implications of a manifestly covariant formulation of relativistic quantum mechanics depending on a scalar evolution parameter, canonically conjugated to the variable mass, is still an unsettled issue. In this work we find the harmonic oscillator solution in the above mentioned formulation, and we briefly comment on some models where this solution could be applied.

Einstein's equivalence principle in quantum mechanics revisited

Michael Nauenberg

The gravitational equivalence principle in quantum mechanics is of considerable importance, but it is generally not included in physics textbooks. In this note, we present a precise quantum formulation of this principle and comment on its verification in a neutron diffraction experiment. The solution of the time dependent Schrödinger equation for this problem also gives the wave function for the motion of a charged particle in a homogeneous electric field, which is also usually ignored in textbooks on quantum mechanics.

Reply to ‘‘Comment on ‘Why quantum mechanics cannot be formulated as a Markov process’’’

Daniel T. Gillespie

In reply to the preceding Comment on an article by D. T. Gillespie [Phys. Rev. A 49, 1607 (1994)], it is emphasized that the most plausible interpretation of the singly conditioned probability function implies that the evolution of the two-state quantum system being considered cannot be characterized as a Markov process on those states over any time interval. And it is pointed out that an alternative interpretation that is offered in the Comment appears to be in conflict with quantum mechanics.
