Abstract

The analysis of dissipative transport equations within the framework of open quantum systems with Fokker-Planck-type scattering is carried out from the perspective of a Wigner function approach. In particular, the well-posedness of the self-consistent whole-space problem in 3D is analyzed: existence of solutions, uniqueness and asymptotic behavior in time, where we adopt the viewpoint of mild solutions in this paper. Also, the admissibility of a density matrix formulation in Lindblad form with Fokker-Planck dissipation mechanisms is discussed. We remark that our solution concept allows to carry out the analysis directly on the level of the kinetic equation instead of on the level of the density operator. Wigner distribution function for the harmonic oscillator with dissipation within the theory of open quantum systems

Аурелиан Исар

Time evolution of the expectation values of various dynamical operators of the harmonic oscillator with dissipation is analitically obtained within the framework of the Lindblad's theory for open quantum systems. We deduce the density matrix of the damped harmonic oscillator from the solution of the Fokker-Planck equation for the coherent state representation, obtained from the master equation for the density operator. The Fokker-Planck equation for the Wigner distribution function is also solved by using the Wang-Uhlenbeck method of transforming it into a linearized partial differential equation for the Wigner function, subject to either the Gaussian type or the $δ$-function type of initial conditions. The Wigner functions which we obtain are two-dimensional Gaussians with different widths.

QUANTUM FOKKER-PLANCK MODELS: THE LINDBLAD AND WIGNER APPROACHES

Anton Arnold, Franco Fagnola, Lukas Neumann

In this article we try to bridge the gap between the quantum dynamical semigroup and Wigner function approaches to quantum open systems. In particular we study stationary states and the long time asymptotics for the quantum Fokker-Planck equation. Our new results apply to open quantum systems in a harmonic confinement potential, perturbed by a (large) sub-quadratic term.

On the derivation and mathematical analysis of some quantum–mechanical models accounting for Fokker–Planck type dissipation: Phase space, Schrödinger and hydrodynamic descriptions

José Luis López, Jesús Montejo–Gámez

This paper is intended to provide the reader with a review of the authors’ latest results dealing with the modeling of quantum dissipation/diffusion effects at the level of Schrodinger systems, in connection with the corresponding phase space and fluid formulations of such kind of phenomena, especially in what concerns the role of the Fokker–Planck mechanism in the description of open quantum systems and the macroscopic dynamics associated with some viscous hydrodynamic models of Euler and Navier–Stokes type.

Wigner distribution function and entropy of the damped harmonic oscillator within the theory of open quantum systems

Аурелиан Исар

The harmonic oscillator with dissipation is studied within the framework of the Lindblad theory for open quantum systems. By using the Wang-Uhlenbeck method, the Fokker-Planck equation, obtained from the master equation for the density operator, is solved for the Wigner distribution function, subject to either the Gaussian type or the $δ$-function type of initial conditions. The obtained Wigner functions are two-dimensional Gaussians with different widths. Then a closed expression for the density operator is extracted. The entropy of the system is subsequently calculated and its temporal behaviour shows that this quantity relaxes to its equilibrium value.

Quantum motion of particles in random dynamic fields and quantum dissipation: Schrodinger equation with Gaussian fluctuating potentials

Vladimir R. Chechetkin, V. S. Lutovinov

The Schrodinger equation with Gaussian dynamic fluctuating potentials is considered. This model gives a convenient example of an open quantum system coupled to a given external environment. The evolution equations for averaged correlators are derived and it is shown that a system coupled to a thermoequilibrium environment tends asymptotically with time to a thermodynamic density matrix. At high temperatures the quantum evolution equation for the density matrix can be approximated by the quasiclassical Fokker-Planck equation. The generalisation for multiparticle systems is also given. The results are illustrated by the particular examples of coupling with phonons and of two-level systems. Finally, it is shown how the problem can be reformulated in terms of continuous stochastic evolution in the space of psi functions and a corresponding functional formalism based on the continuous Fokker-Planck equation in the space of psi functions.
