Abstract

We discuss transformation and measurement of arbitrary four-level optical quantum systems, based on biphotons. A simple scheme preparation of twelve basis states serving for quantum key distribution protocol is suggested as well.

The novel experimental realization of four-level optical quantum systems (ququarts) is presented. We exploit the polarization properties of frequency non-degenerate biphoton field to obtain such systems. A simple method that does not rely on interferometer is used to generate and measure the sequence of states that can be used in quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol.

Quantum state engineering with ququarts: Application for deterministic QKD protocol

Alexander P. Shurupov, Stanislav S. Straupe, S. P. Kulik +2 more

We discuss the proof-of-principle demonstration of the extended deterministic Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) protocol based on ququarts. The experimental realization is based on the polarization degrees of freedom of two-mode biphotons, making the process of state preparation, transformation and measurement rather simple. The scheme uses only single nonlinear crystal for biphoton generation and linear optical elements for their following transformation and can be used as a base for further practical applications.

Biphoton ququarts and their entanglement

Yoon-Ho Kim

A four-dimensional quantum system (ququart) can be constructed by using the biphoton polarization states of frequency-nondegenerate spontaneous parametric down-conversion. We first discuss how to generate and characterize general single-ququart states with varying degrees of mixedness. We then discuss schemes to entangle multiple biphoton ququarts using linear optics and coincidence post-selection.

Polarization states of four-dimensional systems based on biphotons

Yu. I. Bogdanov, Ekaterina V. Moreva, Gleb Maslennikov +3 more

We discuss the concept of polarization states of four-dimensional quantum systems based on the frequency nondegenerate biphoton field. Several quantum tomography protocols were developed and implemented for the measurement of an arbitrary state of ququart. A simple method that does not rely on the interferometric technique is used to generate and measure the sequence of states that can be used for quantum communication purposes.
