Abstract

The applications of quantum cryptography are linked to telecommunication services that require very high level of security. Quantum cryptography could be integrated in various existing concepts and protocols to secure communications. One of the possible use of quantum cryptography is within IPSEC or IPv6. The aim of this paper is to analyse the use of quantum cryptography within IPSEC to secure communications and to present the estimated performances of this solution. In this paper, we introduce basic concepts in quantum cryptography, we propose a solution that integrate quantum key distribution into IPSEC. A performance analysis is done to demonstrate the operational feasibility of this solution.

Schemes of IPsec integrated with quantum key distribution

Abstract With the rapid advancement of quantum computing, traditional security protocols based on classical encryption algorithms are increasingly vulnerable to potential quantum attacks. The current IPsec protocol, which relies on classical cryptographic methods, is insufficient to withstand such threats, thereby compromising the security of long-term data transmission. To address this issue, we propose integrating quantum key distribution (QKD) into the internet protocol security (IPsec) protocol, thereby enhancing its resilience against quantum computing attacks. Here, two schemes that merge QKD-generated keys with classical cryptographic keys are designed to enhance both security and stability. Furthermore, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the performance of various QKD protocols implemented with the scheme, along with an assessment of its overall efficacy across a topological network configuration. This approach not only ensures secure data transmission in the era of quantum computing but also highlights the potential application value of integrating QKD with IPsec, providing valuable insights for the design and implementation of future quantum-secure communication systems.

Improving TLS Security By Quantum Cryptography

Mohamed Elboukhari, Mostafa Azizi, Abdelmalek Azizi

Quantum Cryptography or Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) solves the key distribution problem by allowing the exchange of a cryptographic key between two remote parties with absolute security, guaranteed by the laws of quantum physics.Extensive studies have been undertaken on QKD since it was noted that quantum computers could break public key cryptosystems based on number theory.Actually, the progress of research in this field allows the implementation of QKD outside of laboratories.Efforts are made to exploit this technology in the existing communication networks and to improve the performance and reliability of the implemented technologies. Some research is in progress for the integration of QKD with the protocols in different layers of OSI model. The examples of such research effort are the integration of QKD in point-to-point protocol (PPP) OSI layer 2 and the integration of QKD with IPSEC at OSI layer-3.All these works are moving towards the utilization of QKD technology for enhancing the security of modern computing applications on the internet. In this paper, we present a novel extension of the TLS protocol based on QKD.We introduce a scheme for integrating Quantum Cryptography in this protocol. Our approach improves the security of the process of authentication and data encryption. Also, we describe an example to illustrate the feasibility of our scheme's implementation.

Overview of Quantum Key Distribution Technique within IPsec Architecture

Emir Dervisevic, Miralem Mehić

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is an approach for establishing symmetrical binary keys between distant users in an information-theoretically secure way. In this paper we provide an overview of existing solutions that integrate QKD within the most popular architecture for establishing secure communications in modern IP (Internet Protocol) networks - IPsec (Internet Protocol security). The provided overview can be used to further design the integration of QKD within the IPsec architecture striving for a standardized solution.

Sharing information using quantum cryptography to reach the unconditional security

Solange Ghernaouti-Hélie, Mohamed Ali Sfaxi

To protect the critical telecommunications, it is a must to enhance the ICT security level. To achieve an efficient use of cryptographic mechanisms to secure ICT infrastructures, we propose to integrate quantum key distribution into main communication protocols. In this paper, the weaknesses of classical cryptography and value added by quantum key distribution are analysed. Several feasibility ways to implement solutions based on quantum key distribution are proposed.

The Role of Quantum Cryptography in Enhancing Cybersecurity.

Chris Gilbert, Mercy Abiola Gilbert

As quantum computing starts to pose significant security risks to traditional cryptographic systems, quantum cryptography is emerging as a key solution. This paper examines how quantum key distribution (QKD) and other quantum-based cryptographic methods can strengthen cybersecurity.By leveraging principles from quantum mechanics-like superposition and entanglement-quantum cryptography offers the potential to protect communications from highly advanced quantum threats. We delve into various quantum cryptographic protocols, including BB84 and device-independent QKD, exploring them both theoretically and through computational analysis.Real-world applications in sectors such as finance and telecommunications demonstrate the practical value of QKD.However, challenges like high costs, scalability issues, and compatibility with existing systems remain obstacles to broader implementation.Ultimately, this research underscores how quantum cryptography can enhance current security measures and meet the demands of a future shaped by quantum computing.

Integration of Quantum Key Distribution in the TLS Protocol

Mohamed Elboukhari, Mostafa Azizi, Abdelmalek Azizi

Summary Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) or quantum cryptography has been developed within the last decade; it is proved that QKD is secure against computer attacks and it is considered as a promising solution towards absolute security within long-term cryptosystems. Currently, research efforts are required to make strongly secure the existing communication protocols; we suggest as an issue to improve their security levels by integrating QKD. In this paper, we explore the possibility of using QKD for local area networks (LAN); we propose thus a scheme for integrating quantum cryptography in the TLS protocol. This will much contribute to enhance the process of authentication and data encryption. We present also an example to illustrate the feasibility of our scheme’s implementation.
