Beam splitter entangler for nonlinear bosonic fields

Abstract

Some years ago Katriel and Solomon [1] described applications to the characterization of the photon statistics of nonideal lasers, nonclassical light, and deformed photon states using f -deformed coherent states. In this letter, we study the effect of a beam splitter on these nonlinear coherent states. We find that these states are useful for generating quantum entanglement as the deformation parameter gets farther form the unity and for strong input field regimes. The results are confirmed through the Werhl entropy.

Maximal entanglement from photon-added nonlinear coherent states via unitary beam splitters

K. Berrada

In this paper, we construct photon-added f -deformed coherent states (PA f -DCSs) for nonlinear bosonic fields by discussing Klauder's minimal set of conditions required to obtain coherent states. Using this set of nonlinear states, we propose a very useful scheme for generating the maximal amount of entanglement via unitary beam splitters for different strength regimes of the input field α, deformation q and excitation number m . Therefore, the possibility to create highly entangled states and to control the entanglement is proposed. Moreover, the condition for a maximal and separable output beam state is obtained. Finally, we examine the statistical properties of the PA f -DCSs through the Mandel parameter and exploit a connection between this quantity and the behavior variation of the output state entanglement. Our result may open new perspectives in different tasks of quantum information processing.

Quantum analysis of a beam splitter with second-order nonlinearity and generation of nonclassical light

Hari Prakash, Devendra Kumar Mishra

A quantum mechanical model of a beam splitter having second-order nonlinearity is proposed and shows that nonclassical features such as squeezing and sub-Poissonian photon statistics of optical fields can be generated in output second-harmonic mode when we mix coherent light beams via such a nonlinear beam splitter.

Entanglement generation from deformed spin coherent states using a beam splitter

K. Berrada, M. El Baz, Farhan Saif +2 more

Using the linear entropy as a measure of entanglement, we investigate the effect of a beam splitter on the Perelomov coherent states for the q-deformed Uq(su(2)) algebra. We distinguish two cases: in the classical q → 1 limit, we find that the states become Glauber coherent states as the spin tends to infinity; whereas for q ≠ 1, the states, contrary to the earlier case, become entangled as they pass through a beam splitter. The entanglement strongly depends on the q-deformation parameter and the amplitude Z of the state.

Generation of nonclassical optical fields by a beam splitter with third-order nonlinearity

We propose a quantum-mechanical model of a nonlinear beam splitter having third-order nonlinearity. We show that nonclassical features, such as squeezing and sub-Poissonian photon statistics of optical fields, can be generated in the output when we mix coherent light beams via such a nonlinear beam splitter.

Entanglement and photon statistics of output fields from beam splitter for binomial state inputs

Qingping Zhou, Mao-Fa Fang

The entanglement properties are investigated based on linear entropy and nonclassicalities are examined of output fields from a beam splitter for pure binomial state inputs. It is shown that the properties of the entanglement and the photon statistics of output fields are not only strongly dependent on the parameters of input binomial states but also quite involved with the nature of the beam splitter. The best entanglement can be obtained when the parameters of both input states and the beam splitter are chosen appropriately. Finally, we analyse briefly the distinguishability between the joint input state and the joint output state.

Nonclassical mixed states that generate zero entanglement with a beam splitter

Aaron Z. Goldberg, Daniel F. V. James

Abstract Beam splitters are routinely used for generating entanglement. Their entangling properties have been studied extensively, with nonclassicality of the input states a prerequisite for entanglement at the output. Here we quantify the amount of entanglement generated by weakly-reflecting beam splitters, and look for nonclassical states that are not entangled by general beam splitters. We extend the known class of results to mixed and non-Gaussian states, finding that inputting highly nonclassical combinations of unpolarized states that are squeezed and displaced onto a beam splitter can still yield separable output states. This is important in light of the challenge of characterizing mixed state entanglement. We further identify a parallel between SU(2) unpolarized states and the two-mode vacuum. Our result is crucial for understanding the generation of modal entanglement by beam splitters.
