Abstract

In the present paper the influence of the squeezed vibrational state on the transfer of the energy of the electronic excitation in the molecular systems is investigated. The probability of the transfer of the energy in unit of time in the lowest order on interaction (V) between molecules is determined by the correlation function of the operators of interaction

Theory of Resonance Fluorescence from Vibronic Systems

K.‐E. Süsse, W. Vogel, D.‐G. Welsch

The problem of resonant interaction between an electromagnetic radiation field and a vibronic system, such as a molecule or a localized electronphonon system, is considered. The vibronic coupling is assumed to result from displaced and distorted potential energy surfaces for the vibrational motion in the electronic quantum states involved in the resonant interaction with the radiation field. Furthermore, the vibrational energy relaxation is taken into account without assumptions about Markovian-type relaxation. In order to study correlation properties of higher than second order in the electric field strength of the light emitted a method of calculation of the expectation value of an arbitrary product combination of effective time evolution operators of the vibronic system is developed. The calculations are performed by utilizing Feynman's disentangling and operator ordering techniques and yield closed solutions in the low-temperature limit. The theory is used for studying the intensity and the normally ordered intensity correlation function of the resonance fluorescence light from a two-atom molecule excited by a relatively weak laser field, which undergoes phase fluctuations. It is shown that the vibronic coupling can give rise to an anticorrelation effect which is substantially stronger than in the case of resonance fluorescence from an atom. For the case of small vibrational damping a general formula which directly connects the asymptotic long-time behaviour of the normalized intensity correlation function with the vibrational relaxation in the molecule is deduced. It should be convenient for the determination of very small vibrational decay rates.

Effect of squeezed vibrational states on the optical properties of molecular systems in a field of laser radiation

É. P. Sineavsky, E.Yu. Kanarovsky, A. M. Rusanov

Specific features of optical and nonradiative transitions in molecular systems in the field of an intense electromagnetic wave are studied with account of squeezed vibrational states. It is shown that a field of laser radiation considerably enhances the tunneling processes in electronic vibrational systems and makes it possible to obtain the generation of higher harmonics. Conditions are found under which squeezed vibrational states can lead to some stabilization of excited electronic states with respect to the processes of luminescence.

Influence of vibrational relaxation on energy characteristics of a laser pulse in a molecular amplifier

Maria V. Bogdanova, Tamara M. Il'inova, A O Markano +1 more

Characteristics of the interaction of a laser pulse with a molecular medium are analyzed theoretically in the case when vibrational relaxation takes place in the ground and excited electronic states. The diffusion approximation is used to describe the relaxation transitions. The same approximation is employed in an analysis of the establishment of the limiting steady-state energy of a pulse in a molecular laser amplifier with linear nonresonance losses.

Intensity correlation of the resonance fluorescence from a single molecule

K.‐E. Süsse, W. Vogel, D.‐G. Welsch

The influence of both the finite band width of the laser pump and the effect of the frequency shift of the molecular vibration in the electronic transition on the intensity correlation function gamma 2,2 ( tau ) of the resonance fluorescence light from a single two-atom molecule are studied. In the case of small vibrational damping a double-exponential asymptotic behaviour of gamma 2,2 ( tau ) is found, which is independent of the bandwidth of the exciting laser light.

Excitation of transitions between atomic or molecular energy levels by monochromatic laser radiation - I. Excitation under conditions of strictly homogeneous line broadening

Robert A. L. Smith

Abstract The development with time of the excitation of a transition between two atomic or molecular energy levels under the influence of monochromatic laser radiation is examined under conditions of strictly homogeneous line-broadening. The ratio of the number of atoms or molecules, N2, in an excited state to the total number, N, is calculated for various ratios of the intensity parameter β ═ E0μ/ħ to the half line-width γ. E0 is the amplitude of the electric field in the incident radiation and the dipole moment matrix element for the transition. Exact expressions for N2/N as a function of time are given for the situation when the frequency ω/2π of the radiation is exactly equal to that of the transition ω0/2π. Numerical calculations are made for the situation when the ‘detuning’ δ ═ ω — ω0 is not equal to zero. Approximate expressions are also derived in terms of δ for use in a later paper which deals with mixed homogeneous and inhomogeneous line-broadening.
