Abstract

We investigate the effects of cavity detuning on squeezing in the generation of the squeezed light at 1064 nm with a degenerate optical parametric amplifier (OPA) based on a periodically poled KTiOPO4 crystal. We theoretically analyze several effects that lead to cavity detuning, including the displacement and tilt of the incident laser light and the cavity length fluctuations of the OPA. To reduce the influence of the cavity detuning and increase the degree of generated quantum noise reduction, a side-of-fringe locking technique is applied to achieve the resonance between the OPA cavity and the injected laser beam. The experimental results show that the transmitted power through the locked cavity is increased and the cavity detuning is greatly suppressed. After locking of the cavity, we could expect to get a value for the control loop with an accuracy of 10−9 and the locking time is not less than 2 h, which paves the way for the preparation of the squeezed light.

Theoretical and experimental study on methods for increasing squeezed level in the generation of squeezed light

Fei Feng, Wenyan Qu, Jiazheng Song +1 more

We demonstrate the methods for increasing the observed squeezing level in the generation of squeezed states of light at 1064 nm with periodically poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) crystal. We analyze the technical limits to the reduction of noise in the squeezed quadrature theoretically, including the intra-cavity loss of the optical parametric amplifier (OPA) cavity, the normalized amplitude, the detection frequency, and the mode matching on the balanced homodyning stage. To observe a high degree of squeezing, we improve the quality of mode matching into the OPA cavity and the mode cleaning (MC) cavity experimentally. By optimizing mode matching of the light into cavities, the finesse of the cavities would be higher in practice and the desirable spatial mode can be realized. As the intensity noise of the laser light reach the shot noise limit above the frequency of 1 MHz, which is sufficient for our experiment, so the MC cavity is incorporated to filter higher-order transverse modes of the local oscillator (LO) beam for the balanced homodyne detection. The experimental and theoretical results show that it is essential to optimize the mode matching efficiency to generate and detect high degree of squeezing otherwise an inefficiency mode matching will throw away the squeezing and transform the squeezed field into a vacuum field.

Experimental study on mode matching for preparation of squeezed light at 1064 nm

Fei Feng, Tongyi Zhang, Wenyan Qu +1 more

The effect of mode matching on the preparation of the squeezed light at 1064 nm with periodically poled KTiOPO 4 (PPKTP) crystal is reported. We can derive the desired mode by improving the spatial mode matching into optical cavities, including the beam from the laser mode matched to the optical parametric amplifier cavity and mode cleaning cavity; also it is useful for the stability of the locking systems. By increasing the fringe visibility between the squeezed light and the local oscillator beam, a squeezing level of −8.75 dB or even higher could be observed, even with the same experimental parameters as described elsewhere.

Generation of Long-Term Stable Squeezed Vacuum States Using Dither-Locking Technique

Daohua Wu, Yashuai Han, Xuehua Zhu +1 more

We report the generation of long-term stable squeezed vacuum states at 1064 nm using a degenerate optical parametric amplifier (DOPA) with a periodically poled KTiOPO4 crystal (PPKTP). The OPA is pumped by a 532 nm light produced by frequency doubling the fundamental light with a bow-tie enhancement second harmonic generator (SHG). When the DOPA and relative phases are locked using a dither-locking method, the squeezed vacuum states are stably measured over 2 h at 11 MHz. The highly compact and simple squeezed light source is suitable for applications in quantum optics experiments.

We present the experimental observation of pulsed squeezed light from a degenerate optical parametric amplifier pumped by a second harmonic of a continuous-wave mode-locked Nd:YVO4 laser. With a single pass through a 10 mm long periodically poled KTiOPO4 crystal, the classical parametric gain of 11 is observed. The measured noise reduction in the quiet quadrature is 3.2 dB below the shot-noise level.

Stabilizing the Optical Parametric Oscillator Cavity by Fringe-locking Technique in Preparation of Squeezed State of Light

QU Wen-ya

A fringe-locking technique was employed to stabilize the optical parametric oscillator cavity, which would be affected by external environmental disturbance, such as vibration and airflow.First, how the locking point influence the squeezing degree was analyzed theoretically, the results show that position at half of the transmission peak could be the best locking point. Then the fringe-locking technique was applied to achieve the resonance between the optical parametric oscillator cavity and the injected infrared light experimentally. The experimental results show that the length variance of the cavity in continuous operation over 2his 7.27 nm and the longest locking time is 3.8h,which is sufficient for the detection of the squeezed states of light.

Design of optical parametric cavity for broadband squeezed light field

Junping Wang, Wenhui Zhang, Ruixin Li +3 more

The field of squeezed state is an important quantum resource in the study of quantum optics. In the application of quantum information, the spectrum bandwidth of the squeezed light field is an important index to limit the information transmission capacity. Currently, the optical parametric oscillator (OPO) is one of the most efficient ways to generate high squeezed non-classical optical fields. In this paper, the degenerate singly-resonant and doubly-resonant OPO structures are introduced. Both OPOs are composed of concave mirrors and periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate crystals (PPKTP). The length of PPKTP crystal is 10 mm. The curvature radius of the curved surface is 12 mm, and it has high reflectivity at 1550 nm and 775 nm. The plane surface is coated with anti-reflection coating. The air gap length is 21 mm. The concave mirror is an output coupling mirror, and its radius of curvature is 25 mm. In the singly-resonant OPO, only the signal light resonates in the cavity, and the pump light passes through the nonlinear crystal twice and then outputs out of the cavity. The reflectivity of OPO output coupling mirror to the wavelength of 1550 nm is 88%. The linewidth of the corresponding fundamental frequency wave is 77.4 MHz. For doubly-resonant OPO, both the signal light and the pump light resonate simultaneously in the cavity. The reflectivity of OPO output coupling mirror to 1550 nm and 775 nm is 85% and 97.5%, respectively. The linewidth of the corresponding fundamental frequency wave and harmonic is 97.1 MHz and 15.6 MHz, respectively. Then the threshold of OPO is calculated. The threshold pump power of OPO increases with signal light transmittance increasing, but the threshold value of doubly-resonant OPO is obviously smaller than that of singly-resonant OPO. After that, the variation of the squeezing bandwidth of the squeezed light field generated by OPO with the transmittance of the signal is analyzed. Finally, we complete the design of quantum squeezer with low threshold (18 mW), broadband (84.2 MHz) and high stability (the standard deviation of locking baseline is 0.32 MHz) experimentally. The results show that compared with the singly-resonant optical parametric oscillator, the doubly-resonant cavity has the characteristics of low threshold and high stability, which is more suitable for the preparation and practical application of broadband squeezed light field.
