Abstract

We propose a scheme to generate a superposition of motional coherent states with arbitrary coefficients on a line in phase space and implement a quantum controlled phase-gate for multiple trapped ions with a single standing-wave laser pulse whose carrier frequency is tuned to the ions transition. In the scheme each ion does not need to be exactly positioned at the node of the standing wave, which is very important from viewpoint of experiment. Furthermore, our scheme may allow the generation of a superposition of coherent states with large mean phonon number for a large number of trapped ions in a fast way by choosing suitable laser intensity. We show that it can also be used to generate maximally entangled states of multiple trapped ions.

Quantum phase-gate implementation for trapped ions in thermal motion

Xu‐Bo Zou, K. Pahlke, Wolfgang M. Mathis

We propose a scheme to implement a quantum controlled phase gate for trapped ions in thermal motion with one standing-wave laser pulse. Instead of applying the rotating-wave approximation, this scheme makes use of the counter-rotating terms of the operators. We also demonstrate that the same scheme can be used to generate maximally entangled states of N trapped ions by a single laser pulse.

High-speed generation of macroscopic quantum-interference states for the motion of a trapped ion

Shi‐Biao Zheng

A scheme is presented for the generation of macroscopic quantum-interference states for the motion of a trapped ion. In the scheme the ion is driven by a standing-wave laser beam whose carrier frequency is tuned to the ion transition. The distinct feature of the scheme is that the time required to generate the desired state is limited only by the available laser intensity, not by inherent mechanisms such as off-resonant excitations. Therefore, our scheme may allow the generation of the desired state at a high speed, which is important in view of decoherence. In the two-dimension case, entangled coherent states can be obtained. The scheme can also be used to generate entangled states for multiple modes of $N$ trapped ions with a single strong standing-wave laser pulse.

Quantum-State Engineering of Multiple Trapped Ions for Center-of-Mass Mode

Zeng Hao-Sheng, Kuang Le-Man, Zhu Xi-Wen +1 more

We propose a scheme to generate a superposition with arbitrary coefficients on a line in phase space for the center-of-mass vibrational mode of N ions by means of isolating all other spectator vibrational modes from the center-of-mass mode. It can be viewed as the generation of previous methods for preparing motional states of one ion. For large number of ions, we need only one cyclic operatin to generate such a superposition of many coherent states.

A scheme of quantum phase gate for trapped ion

Cai Jian-Wu, Mao-Fa Fang, Zheng Xiao-Juan +1 more

We propose a scheme to implement two-qubit controlled quantum phase gate(CQPG) via a single trapped two-level ion located in the standing wave field of a quantum cavity, in which the trap works beyond the Lamb–Dicke limit. When the light field is resonant with the atomic transition |g > ↔ |e> of the ion located at the antinode of the standing wave, we can perform CQPG between the internal and external states of the trapped ion; while the frequency of the light field is chosen to be resonant with the first red sideband of the collective vibrational mode of the ion located at the node of the standing wave, we can perform CQPG between the cavity mode and the collective vibrational mode of the trapped ion. Neither the Lamb–Dicke approximation nor the assistant classical laser is needed. Also we can generate a GHZ state if assisted with a classical laser.

Fast scheme for generating quantum-interference states and GHZ state of N trapped ions

Zheng Xiao-Juan, Mao-Fa Fang, Xiang-Ping Liao +2 more

We propose a fast scheme to generate the quantum-interference states of N trapped ions. In the scheme the ions are driven by a standing-wave laser beam whose carrier frequency is tuned such that the ion transition can take place. We also propose a simple and fast scheme to produce the GHZ state of N hot trapped ions and this scheme is insensitive to the heating of vibrational motion, which is important from the viewpoint of decoherence.
