What NeuroQuantology Is Up Against: Deconstruction of a Negative Editorial

Gordon G. Globus

Abstract

The deconstruction of an editorial critical of quantum brain theory and an associated article segues via the editorial’s marginalia to the Bohmian holomovement and dissipative quantum brain dynamics. The explicate order of Bohm, and Vitiello’s ground state between‐two that is consciousness (reinterpreted here as existence), are claimed to be the same. This deconstructive response to severe criticism highlights the revolutionary paradigm shift that neuroquantology brings.

Bohr, Heidegger, The Unspeakable and Dis-Closure: An Exercise in Quantum Neurophilosophy

Gordon G. Globus

The problematic of world is considered within the horizon of Bohr and Heidegger’s surprisingly overlapping formulations of the “unspeakable.” The process of world dis-closure—thrown Existenz—is discussed in terms of dual mode quantum thermofield brain dynamics. Existence, which is sharply distinguished from consciousness, is “between-two.” NeuroQuantology | June 2013 | Volume 11 | Issue 2 | Page 171-180

A Quantum Brain Version of the Quantum Bayesian Solution to the Measurement Problem

Gordon G. Globus

Quantum Bayesianism makes conventional assumptions about conscious experience and the world, which are “deconstructed” here. Conscious experience is succeeded by Heideggerian Existenz as world-thrownness. But unlike Heidegger, Existenz is conceived as a monadological dis-closure in the other-tuned, self-tuned and past-tuned “between” of the quantum thermo field brain’s dual mode vacuum state. The wave function is identified with Bayesian expectation conceived as the brain’s “self-tuning” capability subject to informative modification. Physical reality is never worldly but quantum at all scales. Worlds are disclosed only in monadological parallel in the quantum brain’s tuned between. This version of Quantum Bayesianism offers a novel solution to the measurement problem.

A Quantum Monadological Solution to the Measurement, Consciousness and Qualia Problems

Gordon G. Globus

The measurement, consciousness and qualia problematics are intertwined: all hinge on the failure to “deconstruct” world, consciousness and qualia. Physical reality is quantum at all scales, whereas world is dis-closed in parallel at unique addresses: thrown existence is monadological. Two categories of solution to the measurement problem are distinguished and analyzed: spontaneous decoherence theories and selection by match theories. A new interpretation of the Schrӧdinger wave function as representing the quantum brain’s “self-tuning” is proposed. Quantum neurophilosophy and neuroquantology within the framework of thermofield brain dynamics support an integrated solution to measurement, consciousness and qualia problems.

Mind, matter, and freedom in quantum mechanics and the de Broglie–Bohm theory

Valia Allori, Jean Bricmont

There are several important philosophical problems to which quantum mechanics is often said to have made significant contributions: Determinism: quantum theory has been taken to refute determinism;Free Will: in turn, this is thought to open the door to free will; The mind-body problem: relatedly, it is sometimes said to shed light on consciousness;Idealism: more radically, quantum theory is assumed to have refuted realism and to have placed the observer at the centre of the world;Reductionism: even granting realism, it has been claimed that quantum theory undermines reductionism. Our main thesis in this paper is that none of this is either necessary or desirable. By adopting the de Broglie–Bohm theory (or Bohmian mechanics), one can straightforwardly account for quantum phenomena without endorsing any of these claims.

Brain, Mind, the Arrow of Time and Consciousness

Giuseppe Vitiello

This is a short review of some features of brain modeling in quantum field theory. The brain is continuously interacting with its environment and its functional activity has to be therefore described by a dissipative dynamics. In the model, memory states are generated by the mechanism of spontaneous breakdown of symmetry. From the dissipative dynamics several consequences can be derived, such as the description of the environment in terms of the time-reversed copy of the brain, called its Double. Formally this is achieved by the procedure of doubling the degrees of freedom and the resulting state is a two-mode entangled coherent state. The act of consciousness is proposed to reside in the dialog between the brain and its Double, occurring always in the present, the “Now”, where the brain and its Double indeed meet, on the surface of the time-mirror.

Thinking together quantum brain dynamics and postmodernism

Gordon G. Globus

I “think together” quantum brain dynamics (QBD) and postmodernism (appropriated to include Heidegger). In particular, the world thrownness of Heidegger, the sovereignty of Bataille and the differance of Derrida can be talked about in terms of QBD. This effects a rapprochement between the QBD revolution against classical neural network brain theory and the postmodern revolution against modernity and the metaphysical tradition. Such a grand millenial rapprochement brings together science in the guise of quantum neurophysics and postmodernism against their respective wills. Discussion of the problem of “consciousness” and brain has been so stalemated and seemingly interminable that if progress is to be made, a great conceptual wrenching is only to be expected. My formulation relinquishes consciousness and the quotidian world-in-common in favor of existence and parallel world-thrownnesses.
