Abstract

The dynamics of the population density matrix and polarization density matrix of the biexciton system of single semiconductor quantum dots with pulse excitation were analyzed by using master equations and quantum regression theorem. A model based on the spectral distributions of the cascade photon emissions was proposed to calculate the polarization entanglement of the photon pairs emitted from the non-degenerate biexciton system with spectral filters. The influences of the spectral filter width and the exciton energy splitting between the two orthogonally polarized eigenstates on the entanglement were theoretically analyzed. The dependence of the polarization entanglement on the input pulse area was also discussed.

The influence of spin relaxation on the entanglement of photon pairs emitted from degenerate exciton quantum dot system

Liu Shao-Ding, Mu-Tian Cheng, Xia Wang +2 more

The second-order cross correlation function of the photon emission and the polarization density matrix of the photon pairs emitted from the biexciton system of single semiconductor quantum dots under pulsed excitation were calculated using the dynamical population density matrix equations and quantum regression theorem. The entanglement of the photon pairs emitted from the single quantum dot with degenerate exciton states were investigated, and the relationship between the entanglement and the spin relaxation rate was also discussed. The simulations revealed that the spin relaxation destroys the entanglement of the photon pairs emitted from this system.

Nonclassical correlation of polarization-entangled photons in a biexciton–exciton cascade

Sumanta Das, G. S. Agarwal

We develop a theoretical model to study the intensity–intensity correlation of polarization-entangled photons emitted in a biexciton–exciton cascade. We calculate the degree of correlation and show how polarization correlations are affected by the presence of dephasing and energy-level splitting of the excitonic states. Our theoretical calculations are in agreement with the recent observation of polarization-dependent intensity–intensity correlations from a single semiconductor quantum dot (Stevenson et al 2006 Nature 439 179). Our model can be extended to study polarization-entangled photon emission in coupled quantum dot systems.

Cross-Polarized Single Photon Emission from Single Semiconductor Quantum Dots with V-Type Level Driven by Pulse Field

Liu Wen-Juan, Yaoyi Li

The statistic properties of photon emissions from single semiconductor quantum dots with V-type level driven by pulses are investigated theoretically Based on quantum regression theorem and master equations, the dynamic equations of the second-order correlation function of the photon emissions are deduced. The calculated results reveal that the efficiency of single photon emissions from two orthogonal polarization eigenstates (|x〉 and |y〉) reaches the maximum when the input pulses area is about π, and the probability of the cross-polarized single photon emission from |x〉 and |y〉 decreases with increasing of pulse width.

Influence of Excitation Pulse Width on the Second-Order Correlation Functions of the Exciton-Biexciton Emissions

We investigate theoretically the population dynamics and the second-order correlation functions of photon emissions from the biexciton-exciton system of a single quantum dot with excitation from pulses to continuous wave. The dynamic equations of the correlation functions are deduced by applying quantum regression theorem to optical Bloch equations. The influences of excitation pulse width on the correlation function have been discussed in detail.

Dynamics and the statistics of three-photon cascade emissions from single semiconductor quantum dots with pulse excitation

Mu-Tian Cheng, Si Xiao, Shao‐Ding Liu +3 more

We analyse the population dynamics and the photon emission statistics of a single semiconductor quantum dot with an exciton–biexciton–triexciton multilevel driven by a pulse field, in which the quantum regression theorem and optical Bloch equations are employed. The populations of the three states are comparable under resonant excitation with the input pulse area around 1.5π. Three second-order cross-correlation functions demonstrate the correlated three-photon emissions at a given order from triexciton, biexciton and exciton states driven by single pulses, while the probability of the bunched three-photon cascaded emissions decreases to the minimum as the input pulse area increases to 2π in every period.
