Abstract

In this paper, we study non-binary regular LDPC cycle codes whose parity check matrix has fixed column weight 2 and fixed row weight d. We prove that the parity check matrix of any regular cycle code can be put into a concatenation form of row-permuted block-diagonal matrices after row and column permutations if d is even, or, if d is odd and the code's associated graph contains at least one spanning subgraph that consists of disjoint edges. Utilizing this structure enables parallel processing in linear-time encoding, and parallel processing in sequential belief-propagation decoding, which increases the throughput without compromising performance or complexity. Numerical results are presented to compare the code performance and the decoding complexity.

Group-theoretic analysis of cayley-graph-based cycle gf(2p) codes

Jie Huang, Shengli Zhou, Jinkang Zhu +1 more

Using group theory, we analyze cycle GF(2p) codes that use Cayley graphs as their associated graphs. First, we show that through row and column permutations the parity check matrix H can be put in a concatenation form of row-permuted block-diagonal matrices. Encoding utilizing this form can be performed in linear time and in parallel. Second, we derive a rule to determine the nonzero entries of H and present determinate and semi-determinate codes. Our simulations show that the determinate and semi-determinate codes have better performance than codes with randomly generated nonzero entries for GF(16) and GF(64), and have similar performance for GF(256). The constructed determinate and semi-determinate codes over GF(64) and GF(256) can outperform the binary irregular counterparts of the same block lengths. One distinct advantage for determinate and semi-determinate codes is that they greatly reduce the storage cost of H for decoding. The results in this correspondence are appealing for the implementation of efficient encoders and decoders for this class of promising LDPC codes, especially when the block length is large.

Efficient Encoding Algorithm of Binary and Non-Binary LDPC Codes Using Block Triangulation

Yuta Iketo, T. Nozaki

We propose an efficient encoding algorithm for the binary and non-binary low-density parity-check codes. This algorithm transforms the parity part of the parity-check matrix into a block triangular matrix with low weight diagonal submatrices by row and column permutations in the preprocessing stage. This algorithm determines the parity part of a codeword by block back-substitution to reduce the encoding complexity in the encoding stage. Numerical experiments show that this algorithm has a lower encoding complexity than existing encoding algorithms. Moreover, we show that this algorithm encodes the non-binary cycle codes in linear time.

Encoding Algorithm of Binary and Non-binary Irregular LDPC Codes via Block Triangular Matrices with Low Weight Diagonal Submatrices

Yuta Iketo, T. Nozaki

In this paper, we propose a low complexity encoding algorithm for the binary and non-binary irregular LDPC codes. This algorithm transforms the parity part of the parity-check matrix into a block triangular matrix by row and column permutations. By lowering the weight of diagonal submatrices, we reduce the encoding complexity.

Generalized Construction of Quasi-Cyclic Regular LDPC Codes Based on Permutation Matrices

E.M. Gabidulin, Abdolhosein Moinian, Bahram Honary

A new approach is proposed for constructing regular low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes based on tensor product of matrices. In this paper, first a general construction method of regular LDPC codes exploiting permutation matrices is described. Constructed codes have a quasi-cyclic structure with no short cycles of length 4 in their Tanner graph, hence simple encoding while maintaining good performance is achieved. The paper also demonstrates a generalized design, which covers a large family of LDPC codes and number of other construction methods. The new generalized LDPC codes are defined by a small number of parameters and cover a large set of code lengths and rates. Using these codes, LDPC matrices of any column weight and row weight can be constructed. Performance of these codes under iterative decoding compares well with other well-structured as well as random LDPC codes

Structured LDPC codes from permutation matrices free of small trapping sets

Dung Viet Nguyen, Bane V. Vasic, Michael W. Marcellin +1 more

This paper introduces a class of structured low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes whose parity check matrices are arrays of permutation matrices. The permutation matrices are obtained from Latin squares and form a finite field under some matrix operations. They are chosen so that the Tanner graphs do not contain subgraphs harmful to iterative decoding algorithms. The construction of column-weight-three codes is presented. Although the codes are optimized for the Gallager A/B algorithm over the binary symmetric channel (BSC), their error performance is very good on the additive white Gaussian noise channel (AWGNC) as well.

Column Weight Two and Three LDPC Codes with High Rates and Large Girths

Mohammad Gholami, Ghaffar Raeisi

In this paper, the concept of the {\it broken diagonal pair} in the chess-like square board is used to define some well-structured block designs whose incidence matrices can be considered as the parity-check matrices of some high rate cycle codes with girth 12. The structure of the proposed parity-check matrices significantly reduces the complexity of encoding and decoding. Interestingly, the constructed regular cycle codes with row-weights $t$, $3\leq t \leq 20$, $t\neq 7, 15, 16$, have the best lengths among the known regular girth-12 cycle codes. In addition, the proposed cycle codes can be easily extended to some high rate column weight-3 LDPC codes with girth 6. Simulation results show that the constructed codes achieve excellent performances, specially the constructed column weight 3 LDPC codes outperform LDPC codes based on Steiner triple systems (STS).
